On a team without a QB, nobody is off limits. I would deal anyone of our roster for Philip Rivers or Matt Ryan ( top QB's in the early portion of their careers).

With that said..
I wouldn't deal Willis, VD or Justin Smith without getting a star QB in return. Everyone else would be available.

Willis is clearly the popular choice, but my question is this. If you took the best player at each position in the NFL and removed personality from the equation where would MLB rank in terms of value?

I ask this because I think people on this board are emotionally attatched to the name Willis.

Honestly, I think a QB destroying OLB in the 3-4 is more valuable than great MLB. Again, personality aside.

But really MLB do everything. we don't see how good he really his because this is not the 4-3 switch to that system for willis and he becomes the greatest player alive Cover the run, play the pass cover the backs. wait watch the back on the screen. willis is everywhere not always true for dware he's just trying to get to the qb still.

Ok well in a 3-4 yes a outside linebacker is the most important manny lawson is solid but we never got the other guy the true passrusher we just forgot about him. But a Guy that plays that spot isn't easy to find. Chargers, Cowboys, and Steelers all have that guy who can change a play from the spot. We don't so we need to get him or give what we do have in willis a chance to be his best.

Actually i think we should just move willis to that spot let spikes and bowman man the middle and willis coming off the edge in a 3-4... Like against the bucs willis line up on the edge and caught freeman for a sack why don't we use him more like this.. he's fast enough strong enough and smart enough he's already a problem for guards he could make tackles look like chumps.

But isn't that the point? There are very few elite passrushers, like QBs. But there are a handful of MLBs that are all very similar, Willis may not even be playing the best this year. I guess what I'm saying is, while I think it would be difficult if not impossible to replace Willis' production, it would be even harder to fill a void left by a great QB or D.Ware type.

As great as Willis is, I guess I just see his position as much easier to fill than others.

So there is no confusion, I think WILLIS IS A GREAT ALL WORLD PLAYER.

Unless someone is offering us a Hershel Walker type of deal,

Gore (if we use Dixon more, he can be productive for a few more years).

We have some nice pieces to build around. With the right coaching hire and a good QB, I can see us having the largest turnaround in 2011.

Vernon Davis is the interesting name here. He is a "threat" to burn a linebacker and some safeties, but other than than, he is not even close to being a complete tight end. He could be replaced by Bynam for blocking purposes and Walker is a better receiver. Plus, there are always some very good TEs coming out of college that could do a better overall job than Davis. Hence, he could be excellent trade bait to move up to assure getting Luck or someone else that will be of high value.

What we are seeing from Davis now is an example of why spending a #6 overall pick on a TE is not a very good value.

I agree with this. The only player on our team that would be close to "non-tradeable" is Willis. Even then, it simply depends on the deal. While it's nice to have the best MLB in the NFL on your team, it is not the most important position on the field...
