Singletary's biggest mistake is.. (vote)

Sing's downfall began when he fired Martz. I said at the time that it was a bad move.

Raye set this team back bigtime.
It's easily his "stubborn & naive 1980's football philosophy".

Some of us here at the ZONE have been saying this for a long while now. Sing's "vision" of what this team should be has killed this team and will continue to kill this team.

i think sing's biggest coaching mistake is not playing to win. sing plays to not lose instead of going for the kill. we need a killer instinct and to put teams away.

sing tries to hold onto the lead too much and i think that has been killing us all season.
even with alex in there i think we could have won a couple more games if singletary played to win the game.

It's not a 17-points-is-enough-to-win-if-you-play-great-defense kind of league any more. I think that was a terrible move. Especially in the face of not having an established guy to replace him with. Please. Don't give us that identity load of crap, Mike. You screwed the pooch.

this.

in fact, all that stuff is problematic, and right behind the decision to fire Martz I would put his game management and preparation. But Martz was part of the reason Sing was made the full-time head coach in the first place. They might have not seen eye-to-eye, but somehow for those 8 games they found enough balance to get the team playing very well. Not sure why they couldn't have found a way to continue working together.
Martz was at his best in a similar situation in St Louis with Dick Vermeil, a relatively conservative HC who appreciated what Martz brought but also recognized the need to keep him in check. Vermeil was strong enough, and convincing enough, without being a tyrant, to make that work for the Greatest Show on Turf and a Super Bowl.

#7 no doubt, Open it up and score some points and we would have been in the playoffs lastyear....

Settling for mediocrity- Jimmy Raye and Alex Smith.
Taking a job he is clearly not qualified for. A couple of the hardest things any man can ever say are "I don't know how" or "I can't do that". I have seen more good guys lose their jobs (myself included) because they did not admit their short comings, Mike Singletary is not ready to be an NFL head coach. So his biggest mistake is thinking he could, or being to prideful to admit he can't.

His philosophy, stubbornness and lack of coaching knowledge has doomed this team.

You really can't blame him for the Shaun hill trade and Carr signing, those were not his calls

I meant hiring a guy who wasn't qualified.
