Based off his demeanor, he doesn't seem coach-material

Careful, methodical, even keeled and thinks things through. Yeah you're right. He'd be a terrible coach.

I'd rather have a passionate, fiery, emotional guy who gives great motivational speeches...oh wait.

LOL. He'd be perfect as a coach. He just may not be the right QB though. Coaching and QB are vastly different. A student of the game, a hard working guy and a highly intelligent person are good qualities for a coach.

THIS
Well he got a 40 on the Wonderlic test... I'm not actually sure if that would make him a good coach but it's a start.
I think he could draw up a good game-plan during the week when he would have time to analyze it...But when it's 3rd and 13, you're down by 7 with :50 left on the clock and NEED a conversion to stay in the game, would he be able to think under pressure and dial up the right play call? I'd have to say no, he would over-think it like he does when quarterbacking.

He doesn't even want to call his own plays. Why would he want to call someone else's?

And how do you figure he doesn't want to call his own plays?

Because he stated as much a month or so ago...

link

Since you're too lazy to use Google...

Yeah dude your wrong he doesn't say he doesn't want to call his own plays the person who wrote the article said he's not comfortable calling ALL of his own plays. Doesn't mean it's true. Right before that the writer said Alex suggested calling his own play if the play wasn't in when there was 24 seconds left on the clock.

Just something I was pondering this weekend. Alex Smith is very intelligent and probably very football smart. He may not have that "it" factor when it comes to playing QB but I wonder if he could coach a QB.....or perhaps coordinate a offense?? Just a thought...

Backup QBs usually make pretty good coaches because they spend so much time on the sidelines absorbing what the coaching staff is doing.

How are those drugs anyway? They sure must be sweet!
Right........

How is it unreasonable?

Michael Jordan = GOAT as a player. But as a coach/owner for the Wizards..? He was fired.

Phil Jackson...didn't do much as an NBA as a player (averaged 6 ppg). But Phil Jackson as an NBA coach...GOAT.

The whole point is sometimes you play better than you teach and vice a versa. Alex isn't a good QB but he's certainly a smart guy who understands the game. So how is saying that me being "high dood?"

Phil Jackson had great, great players. Some of the best to ever play the game in the modern era. Once he got "good" as a coach he was able to CHERRY PICK another dream team situation for more Championships. He is good but he had amazing talent along the way too. Give him average talent and you won't win the Championship.

Phil Jackson has had great players but he also beat teams with great players. What championship team didn't have great players? Besides just having great players isn't enough. Look at the Heat.

Is Phil Jackson was coaching them they'd have 1 or 2 losses.
