Would Alex Smith make a good coach?

Right........

How is it unreasonable?

Michael Jordan = GOAT as a player. But as a coach/owner for the Wizards..? He was fired.

Phil Jackson...didn't do much as an NBA as a player (averaged 6 ppg). But Phil Jackson as an NBA coach...GOAT.

The whole point is sometimes you play better than you teach and vice a versa. Alex isn't a good QB but he's certainly a smart guy who understands the game. So how is saying that me being "high dood?"

Phil Jackson had great, great players. Some of the best to ever play the game in the modern era. Once he got "good" as a coach he was able to CHERRY PICK another dream team situation for more Championships. He is good but he had amazing talent along the way too. Give him average talent and you won't win the Championship.

Its real funny that multiple coaches both had those same players and neither could get them outta the 2nd Rd. Both bulls and Lakers. Phil comes in and everything changed instantly with both teams. It didn't take a couple yrs for either team to win. there is a reason why the Lakers went after Phil to get him to come back and is paying him double what any other coach in the league is getting! that aint lucky my friend but greatness.

BTW Alex may make a pretty decent coach cuz he is a terrible player.
you don't have to be a great player to become a great coach............

just look at..... we'll.... we don't have to look very far for that.
He doesn't even want to call his own plays. Why would he want to call someone else's?

And how do you figure he doesn't want to call his own plays?

Just something I was pondering this weekend. Alex Smith is very intelligent and probably very football smart. He may not have that "it" factor when it comes to playing QB but I wonder if he could coach a QB.....or perhaps coordinate a offense?? Just a thought...

I would expect that a fan on this forum would stay current enough on their team to know a well documented fact like this...

He may have just said that publicly, not wanting to piss off the coach.

When he calls our plays they seem to work more often then not.

When he calls our plays, we're down by 10 or more points and the defense is in prevent mode.

Ok...so they are expecting the pass then and they still execute.

Last year against the colts before halftime he executed a real nice TD drive. Were they in the prevent? The saints game this year...they were in the prevent too?

Everything was open underneath. Yes, they were in prevent.

By the way, did we win those games? Exactly.

Who cares if we won or not. That's irrelevant to the discussion. Did Alex Smith call plays the whole game? No. Did Alex Smith get burned on that half back option pass? No.

And all the throws were underneath? Are you talking about that throw in between two defenders to Crabtree or the pass to the back of the endzone to Vernon Davis?

I'm going to ask a few question and then answer them for you.

First of all, I said everything was OPEN underneath. When did I mention anything about the passes? Never. Second, was the defense playing as aggressive as they were the rest of the game? Absolutely not. Third, can you even tell the difference? Apparently not.

And you ask who cares if we won.. Well, seeing as how we were in comeback-mode and in a position to win the football game, effectiveness of the play calling has a little something to do with the end result. What were the end results? Failure.

Based off his demeanor, he doesn't seem coach-material

Careful, methodical, even keeled and thinks things through. Yeah you're right. He'd be a terrible coach.

I'd rather have a passionate, fiery, emotional guy who gives great motivational speeches...oh wait.

LOL. He'd be perfect as a coach. He just may not be the right QB though. Coaching and QB are vastly different. A student of the game, a hard working guy and a highly intelligent person are good qualities for a coach.

Alex Smith let's everyone walk all over him. Players would destroy him a la Wade Phillips
Another Hostler? lol
