It's the greatest danger. This win streak is not going to go anywhere.

If this win streak takes us to the playoffs and we win at least one game, then obviously Sing found something that worked for him and he deserves to stay. Something that can't be said about certain trolls on this forum.

We will lose with him again next year and forever until we get a legimate coach. A real good coach and probably a QB should be our priorites IMO. Although Troy Smith may be able to buy us some time. He's at least functional and makes some big plays. Of course not against good teams yet but we will see.

Honestly I doubt Singletary is saved at all. The damage is already done and there will be a new HC next year. The way Troy Smith plays is irrelevant to the Singletary's job.

I really think we need to get rid of sing no matter what happens. He's just horrible. We can't even manage the clock or timeouts. That's just basic stuff. There are guys starting who shouldn't be. He's not sure which QB should be the starter.

To anyone trying to downplay Troy's performance because they think the Rams are a bad team, remember this:

Troy Smith was sacked FIVE times.

Only other time this year we gave up that many was against the Chiefs. Remember how that game turned out?

Give the kid his due credit. I don't care if he turns out to be a flash in the pan. He still deserves credit for an amazing performance against a defense that utterly dominated our o-line most of the game.

I really hope you are right about this. After all, he only started Troy when he had no other options. If Alex did not get hurt he'd still be in there. He was hell bent on keeping Alex the starting QB at all costs. I'm concerned that when Troy struggles a little or throws an Int Sing may replace him with Alex. Troy is on a short leash I fear.

oh he haaaadd options. His name was David Carr
@SanDiego49er...

I think that you are absolutely right, unfortunately by winning with Singletary as our HC, will keep him employed by the York Ownership.

There is an even worse downside to Troy continuing to play well.

(1) Troy's one-year contract ends at the end of this season. Not only will the 49ers want his future services, but other teams probably will as well. Would the 49ers be Troy's first choice? Is it scary to pay big bucks to someone who might be a 1/2 season flash in the pan?

(2) More wins means a lower first round pick. If you think Troy might be the long term answer, do you not draft a QB in the first round? Alex, seeing the handwriting on the wall, goes elsewhere (delighting many on this board). Now if the real Troy reveals himself next year to be not as good as you thought, where are we?

Eric Branch made the statement in today's article that Troy has thrown only 1 INT in 136 career pass attempts. He conveniently chose to ignore Troy's 12 preseason appearances over four years, where he had 86 completions on 156 attempts, 2 TDs and 6 INTs. It is not as if the guy has never thrown INTs. I know, preseason means nothing, except to those who have pointed out Alex's preseason stats.

what is wrong with you? can't we be happy for the 49ers when they win? we have a QB throwing for 356 yards and it's a bad thing? Go root for some other team please cause all I hear from your post is that your not rooting for the 49ers.

Troy Smith may have guaranteed Mike Johnson the same role for the 49ers next season, but it certainly doesn't provide any additional wiggle room for Mike Singletary.

Everyone knows that Singletary is, at the very least, a disciplinarian that would bring a physical offensive line, running game, and defense to the table as a head coach.

Well, we rely more on our pass blocking rather than run blocking, especially up the middle.

The passing game now sets up the running game.

And the defense plays bend but don't break defense.

You could literally fire Singletary and not see any reduction in performance.
I have been a fan of the 49ers for 35 years, and you are suggesting I quit rooting for the team - just because I noted some very real issues that will have to be dealt with if Troy proves to be the real deal. For gosh sakes, he may want to go play for Cleveland.

They have McCoy who is playing good football right now.
