Both Baltimore and Pittsburgh have faster defenses than the 49ers. The 49ers seem to think they are faster than the actually are. Matt Barrows even mentioned that in his chat the other day.

The 49er defense is looked at as being fast because of Willis' speed but other than Willis, none of the others are on the same level. Lawson is OK and Spencer is a bit above average but the rest of the defense can't run with a Dexter McCluster or Reggie Bush or Roddy White. They just can't. Now add in the fact they can't rush the passer either and you see why the defense has cost 2 wins.

So, for Alex to be successful, he needs a top tier, O-line, a top tier set of Skill players on offense, AND a top 3 defense! Wow I think I could almost suit up with that kind of support!

Look at Bradford, Bradford makes that whole team better, his O-line looks better, his WR's look better, even his defense looks better playing with a lead! No matter how you slice it Alex was NOT worth the first pick over all, and is not capable of being a successful starter in the NFL.

look at the teams Bradford has played.

How'd he do against the Seahawks?

the real Seahawks are not the pumped up Seahawks we played in week one.

My biggest fear is that Alex is going to turn in a gem of a performance at some point during this miserable season (hey, every dog has its day, right?) and therefore earn another five year run as the starting QB of your San Francisco 49ers.

Bill is right. Last year his last two games were against the worst teams in the league. That and the disproportionate amount of garbage time stats that he gets to rack up over the course of a season build up his passer rating beyond what his real level of play is. THis management team is just dumb enough to believe that and use it to give him an extension.

Well let`s see, going back to mid of 09 season Smith did almost enough to come from behind in multiple games.... But on the final drives of the game this year and last the D cant hold or cant stop the QB from going right down the field and either we lose or dont get the ball back. Ya Smiths mistakes are part of the shooting ourselves in the foot but the D doesnt show up when they need to most.

I've seen him come through in the clutch (late game drives, two minute drill) more often than not. So have all fans of the 49ers.

how about chances to tie a game up when we needed him in the 4qtr before a game got out of hand.

I can't remember if it was under 2mins against the Titans last year...but Alex had a Matt Ryan moment where he had a second chance to tie or win a game....most QBs don't get that chance late in games.... Alex did and he failed both times with turnovers......after the second fail....Titans scored...then when Titans are up by 2 scores...Alex drives down the field against a soft coverage to pad his stats with a TD...but the game was already over.

but maybe ur right....under 2min situations......but only problem with Alex back there is...more often then not, the game is already lost before the 2 min warning.
