He is 32. Done 10 seasons. The end.
Keep Norris. He's Gore's soul mate. Don't give a s**t about the rest of'em.

I'm with you on Norris. He's old and not as good as he used to be. And in the modern NFL you don't even need a true fullback. On the kind of blocking downs they might need a player like that, they can use Byham.

They can use the roster spots to resign Diyral Briggs. I expect Haralson AND Lawson to be gone next year, and unlike a lot of you, LaBoy is not the answer, and I doubt Brooks is either. They're both good pass rushers, but they were ABUSED by KC who exposed their weaknesses!

As for Michael Lewis, I agree he's a problem, but though Sing may be short-sighted about offense, he DOES know something about defense. If he thinks Taylor Mays is not ready, he's not ready!

The as to he others, I'm not with you at all. Haralson has been disappointing, but until we have something better, I wouldn't dump him completely - bench him maybe, but no dump him.

And as to Chilo, I think you're way overreacting! He's had some games when he's been bad - terrible even! But he's also had some games when he's been good. What is he, 22, 23? We know what we have in Baas, Snyder and Wragge - and it's not good. A least with Chilo, we haven't found the ceiling yet. Now I wouldn't be opposed to benching him, and also trying to find someone more consistent next year. But you don't just give up on guys with talent until you have a better alternative.
We need to dump Norris for a younger more athletic player. He is old and slow and the few runs he does get he dives into the ground.

Lewis, Rachal, Harlason and Norris NOW.

It would open a spot on the roster for Caulcrick, Bruce Davis, Possibly Keaton Kristick and someone else.

When I clicked on this I thought it was going to be stupid but you make a solid point. Not much of a chance of playoffs and all those guys have a huge upside but need playing time. Lewis is old. Rachal is a bust. He overpowered guys in college and that doesnt work in the nfl. He also has terrible feet. Norris is useless as he isnt even a good blocker anymore. Haralson is probably the most useless out of the pack as he has nothing going for him. Hes soft, looks lost and cant pass rush.

Age + wear & tear = decline in performance
Agree in part. First, I'd try getting a few 7th round picks or even one good player for all of them.. If not send them packing.
we could but none of those players are any improvments
Norris should not have been on the roster--he is archaic---i liked Miller or just use Byhnam and have another roster spot available.

Haralson----why is he on the team still? should have kept briggs.

should have kept Mitchell instead of Evans.
Should have kept Nate Davis on the 53 man roster--i'd bring him back now and cut Troy Smith.

Rachel is in his 3rd year---isn't showing much---is there any team in the NFL with as many 1st and 2nd round picks on the o line as the Niners?

Trent Baalke had a very good draft in 2010---I would keep him even if we get a new GM.

Lewis -- if the season continues to unravel and the 49ers are out of playoff contention by the midway point, then Lewis should probably assume the Mark Roman role from last year and become a back-up while Smith, Mays and/or Taylor get some game snaps.

Norris -- his role was already gradually being diminished and I suspect its not going to increase with Johnson taking over as OC. They could release him and perhaps bring someone up to help on special teams.

Harelson -- absolutely not. Obviously, he needs to play better but with Lawson in the final year of his contract and probably not coming back, LaBoy on a 1 year deal and Brooks yet to show he can play every down or in space, they have to keep him.

Rachal -- Everyone is down on him for much the same reasons they were down on Baas over the years. They both were 2nd round picks, have struggled with injuries and did not meet everyone's expectations early, though both also had some flashes of good play. Granted it took a position change, but now everyone seems to like Baas (or at least believe he can be an upgrade at C). If someone can beat Rachal out, then he should become a back-up until he can win his job back but its way too early to just cut him. Ironic, that if he were cut or benched, his likely replacement would be Snyder who the fans have been calling for his head for quite a while as well until he had 1 good game against the Saints.
