Alex Smith: SEA defense can't learn 49ers offense in a week & still comes down to match ups

I think it comes down to matchups and execution more than anything.

Not worried about that at all. We should be able to take them. Im guessing something like 27-14 or something

Matt Barrows mattbarrows

Ted Ginn and Phillip Adams are alternating on punt returns. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say one of them will handle those duties SUN ...

Alex Smith said he prefers "heads" when it comes to coin tosses.

Another excellent point! I believe that we can start seeing passes out of the I-formation allowing Gore to stay behind to take care of the middle blitz lane and allow Alex some more time to find an open man quicker. I can see Raye also starting out of the "I", but then motion Gore out as a WR where a LB would have to cover him.

Given our talent level now, I expect Raye to hand the reigns over to Smith who will audible if the D shows something he can exploit.

Wow, did I just say Alex and exploit in the same sentence. It is about time!!!

This statement is KEY! If Raye calls a play (and we get it in on time..LOL) and Raye allows Smith the option to audible out (tough in Seattle) if the Hawks are showing 8-9 men in the box and geared to run blitz, THIS would be better then any "game plan" coming in. THIS would be the key to a victory IMHO. I like your thoughts on the I-formation. Trust me, I will be watching Raye's play calling and Alex's audibles (if allowed) more then anything this game. There are no more excuses for anyone at this juncture...we're watching Raye!

...we're watching you, too, Smith!

Even though preseason is meaningless in most phases of the game, I still can see certain plays being executed and other not so well. For example, that first drive against Minny was a thing of beauty with Alex makin' it happen by steppin up, feeling the rush, and finding his open guy like Ginn and Walker. We need more of that! Those are glimpses that I don't remember seeing in preseason before, really.

Therefore, I can expect some success from this offensive squad. You know what Alex reminded me of in that game against Minny? Himself in the Fiesta Bowl where he would read the D and react. This trait exemplifies the "intangibles" label slapped on him. Once he's knows the playbook, he can make his own plays.

It's about frickin' time. We shall see how that story develops through the game.

funny article in Seatle Times. it kinda goes into what a conversation would be like in their locker room right now with all of the last minute roster moves going on there.
Since I'm so freaking bored and have nothing else to do, here is what I see going down this week against the Hawks.

Niners 31, Hawks 21

Smith 2 TDs, 1 Int, 245yds
Gore 1 TD, 130yds
VD 5 rec, 65yds 1 TD
Ginn 2 rec, 105 yds 1 TD; 1 KR for TD
Crabtree 4 rec 40 yds

Willis 14 tackles
Smith 6 tackles, 1.5 sacks
Laboy 3 tackles, 1.5 sacks
Clements 6 tackles, 1 INT

Summary: Niners surprise everyone by starting the game with 6 straight passing plays. Niners score 24 of the 31 points in the first half and use the running game to play keep away in the 2nd half. Hasselbeck's injury issues continue when he's sacked by Laboy in the 4th quarter. Hasselbeck left the game with back spasms and possible broken ribs.

Of course the Niners will NEVER START ANY GAME WITH 6 STRAIGHT PASSES with Raye running the show, but a guy can dream.
