I don't like Bowman as the only backup ILB.
agreed wilihem is more than servicable hes a very good tackler
Disagree after watching Wilhelm moving slower than molasses last night and not coming close to making tackles near or at the line of scrimmage. That delayed middle draw by Tolbert(?) went for big yardage and Wilhelm didn't even get a hand on him.
Maybe Ahmad Brooks or Kyle Williams ends up on PUP and the 49ers pick up one of their players waived today or off some other team's scrap heap? We'll see.
Cutting Wilhelm is an a very encouraging move. It shows that they are keeping talent over experience. Wilhelm was below average, and on the older side. He will not be picked up by anyone, and if we have an ILB injury we can always sign Wilhelm back (or sign someone better).

Discouraged we cut Paymah and Maragos. I mean, if we are going to keep 11 DB's, why not 13, or 18, or 25.
Robinson was the biggest surprise of the cuts. But Singletary said his lack of versatility was the reason the club decided to go in a different direction.
"It came down to a decision based on productivity," Singletary said. "How much does he actually play on offensive side of the ball? We could not fit him in on offensive side of the ball."
Since Sing is talking about productivity, and we have 84 DB's on the roster, I guess this means we are going to play in many different defensive sets this season, including ....the 2-3-6 defense, the 2-2-7 defense, and the 1-2-8 defense.
Cutting a Pro-Bowl alternate at special teams for 4 DB's who will NEVER see the field. Very, very odd.
P.S. Looking forward to the Sunday de-activated list of 8 DB's.
Cheers.

Or Jarret Brown, I thought he would make the team for sure as a 4th qb.

YES YES YES, BOONE AND LABOY MADE IT!!!

Smart move stocking up on o-linemen, we're not gonna make the same mistake as last season, although I would have honestly cut Adam Snyder to keep Robinson (he contributes more on special teams than a week-to-week mediocre/in-active fill-in guard).

I think they made good cuts. No one really surprised me, even M. Rob wasn't a surprise. The vets that got cut suck especially Paymah.

Thinking could be to keep a guy like Brock around for a few days and let teams establish their rosters/practice squads. Then pick up a veteran ILB from the trash heap, release Brock and put him on the PS (might be a little easier to sneak him through at that point).

Actually, most, if not all, will see the field on Special Teams (except for any that get bumped when Will James and the other walking wounded get healthy again). We're also in a pass-happy conference with teams that will routinely spread 3 and 4 *good* WRs across the line of scrimmage, and that with the almost certain injuries that will befall our starters means an NFC West team almost can't have too many DBs (yes, I know one can, but you catch my drift).
Although I often disagree with 49ers management's decisions, I think Sing was right when he described M-Rob's ST play as good but not spectacular. He's a good player, but like most, not irreplaceable (especially when new players like Bowman have joined the team), though I suspect he'd have been kept but for the uncertainty at CB this year. Actually, if Heitmann had stayed healthy, Wragge or Snyder would have been a goner, and Robinson would have stayed.

i don't think that Brock needs to be snuck. I mean, he's an UDFA who didn't play that much or necessarily light it up in the preseason. He played well, but its not like he was so good that the team can't afford to lose him. IDK, MadDog is right that its strange to keep so many DB's, so few ILB's, and to ditch your ST captain...I do think Brock will be the first one released if there is someone else on the wire that we want, and I think he'll clear and end up on the PS.

If anything it may be harder to get him onto PS later on when you can't hide his name amongst dozens of others. Not only that but other teams are bound to take a second look at him knowing that he made our final 53 out of camp.
