This wouldn't be acceptable if Crabtree had done something to actually earn the Diva attitude. The fact that he hasn't, makes this even more despicable.
Based on the reports, it does seem like Crabtree was acting up a bit and always had this careless attitude towards practice and whatever. It's one thing if you are a proven veteran, but this guy is still immature and needs a lot of coaching on and off the field.
I'm glad Vernon called him out, I just hope he has the brains to take it in the right spirit.

Win the game agaist Seattle, VD and Crabtree each score a TD, obviously everything is forgotten.
I just heard MM on KNBR with Radnich. It sounds like many of the Vets were already casting a wary eye at Crabtree because he kept scratching himself from the pre-season games . . . then yesterday Crabtree was f**king-off and joking around in practice and Vernon had enough.

I think it was more of a message for next year that had to be delivered before tonights final exhibition game.

Sing should play crabtree into the third quarter tonight just to prove a point.

Some things indicate how much a person cares about things. When asked by Glazer if there's anything Singletary has said that has stuck in his mind because Singletary is such a good speaker, here's what Crabtree said (paraphrasing):

"Not really...I mean...he's a good motivator and speaker...there are 5 things he has up on the wall..."

What's even worse is that he only knew 2 of those 5 things. That tells you right there where his priorities are at. I think he's already counting the days left on his contract as a Niners.

From now on, any incompletion Smith throws to Crabs is all Crabs' fault.

You never get the feeling that Crabtree bought all the way in to Singletary's philosophies and beliefs. Sure he's on the team but that's different than being part of the team.

I just don't know why this was not addressed sooner. It seems that Singletary knew all along this would happen. The "elephant in the room" theory says it all. Why let it get to this point? I think Willis should beat Crabtree's ass as well

I think Singletary wanted the leaders of the team to take care of it because if they do, then they have more ownership to what happens with the team. He probably loved the fact that Vernon called Crabs out. I think if Singletary did it, he would have lost Crabs because Crabs would be thinking that the players didn't feel this way so why should I listen to you.
A few days ago, someone posted here that fans of the cardinals were going crazy about the "Leinart being shopped" rumors.

Guess it's the turn of the "ninertalk" crowd to go crazy and over think and see the sky falling over the Davis vs Crabtree dilemma.
Yeah, it seems that Tree thinks his sh@t don't stink.

I believe it wouldn't matter if he was in practice or not, because the guy catches most everything thrown his direction. But that's not the point. He needs practice to help develop team camaraderie, just like everyone else on the team does. Practice is not just about Xs' and Os', it's about conditioning, timing and morale.

Tree's young. He'll get it. If not then he'll be gone and will be someone else's problem when his contract expires.

There's a HUGE difference between the Lienart situation and the Crabtree situation. Lienart actually worked hard this offseason and showed up for everything trying to keep/earn the starting job but his performance on the field didn't hold up.

Crabtree, on the other hand has an issue with respecting how hard everyone else is working to improve this team and do what they need to do. Thinking you're above everything is a much bigger issue than not performing well because you just may not be good. Players like Crabtree quickly look to move onto the next team that is willing to pamper him and do as he asks: see Albert Haynesworth.

Agree. In some ways I think Crabtree thinks his production last year gives him the same "star" treatment that Gore and Vernon might get. They get held out of preseason so he might as well.

Naw, I think he takes advantage of things if he can. You give him a dollar and he will ask for $20 because Vernon played and only sat out due to a real injury. This is the most amount our players have sat out of preseason games and I'm wondering if they saw Crabs getting away with it and felt then why the eff should they be playing either.

Difference is Gore and Vernon want to play in the preseason even though it's not always the wisest choice. Obviously Crabs doesn't want to until the games count I guess.

If I were Crabs I would have wanted to play last weekend to show those idiots in Oakland what they passed up on. Instead our secondary let Heyward-Bey make a few grabs making Oakland think they have just a good of a player.

I agree with Roger Craigs take on it....the guys are ready to go.

When I was much younger I used to commercial fish for a living. We would spend a good month before the crab season opened getting everything ready to go, the gear, the boat etc. You didn't get paid for it. Every boat and crew was doing this. At night, the crews would gather in the bars and drink it up. During that time, individual crews would become tight and a tension would build between. Then, without failure, by the week of the season opener, after everything was ready to go..the tension of the anticipation would be so thick in the air that a fight would break out in the bar..it would usually start between two guys from different crews talking s**t about the others crew, Capt. or boat etc. That would lead directly into the two crews going at each other, then it would be all the crews going at each other, a full blown bar brawl with each crew their own army...just like you see in the movies....bust the whole f**king bar up, glasses, tables, chairs, open the taps wide, the whole works. s**t flying everywhere.

It is a good sign to see that tension, it means they are ready to go. If they could, I bet they would love to be taking that tension out on Seattle right now in a full blown brawl, but they can't, so you are seeing it slip out a little in little ways.

I saw this same thing in boot camp as well...by the week of graduation, we were on a tight wire, we were ready to go, nothing could stop us now..... we ended up getting into a platton Vs platoon Vs platoon brawl in the middle of the night, we busted the barracks up.

What will make this even better is the next time it happens someone else steps up and says something... Patrick Willis?

I think Alex sinced there was some resentment and thats why he got the skills guys together to talk. Unfortunately I think Crabs blew it off... but now VD takes matters into his hands perhaps things are starting to change. Crabtree has probably been aloof at practice his whole life... and the only time that has matter before is game time. Texas Tech didnt exactly have a rost full of NFL guys... so he could get away with being a diva. I can't help but hear Alan Iverson... "we talkin' practice man..." like its not important.

Crabtree has ridiculous talent, but so do hundreds of other players that pissed it all away. I never understood how someone with so much potential could settle for being average... and thats what he is ... not even that yet. His numbers were OK last year in limited time, but not great.

Maybe Sing pulled a couple of lines of Rudy..."If you had half the heart of Davis you would have been all pro"

Its obvious that Davis isn't taking any s**t and I like it.... I hope the other leaders on the team follow his example and great things will be coming the 9ers way!
