First Pick next year.....with the possibility of another late rounder as well.

With the injuries at LT, I think we tee off all day.

our defensive backfield usually looks better then they are because our run defense is so stout. We do need to look into drafting some corner talent because we have good development depth at safety.

Yes, our DBs are not covering themselves in glory...in fact, many times they are not covering, period. There is an old axiom about DBs. "If you can't cover, then blitz...on every play if you have to." Personally i would much prefer a DB to be blitzing than playing 10 yds off LOS, giving up everything underneath, and additionally not being able to cover deep either. So either have all DBs that can't cover, blitz, or bench them. If a guy can't cover, why put him out there? If we have to try out 200 unsigned UDFAs, or we have to have Michael Robinson out there playing DB, do whatever needs to be done to find someone who CAN cover. Right now our DB crew is playing about as well as last yr...poorly. And our $80 mil (ok, $64 mil) shutdown corner is showing the merits of guaranteed money. Because if #22 didn't have a guaranteed contract, he wouldn't be worth $1mil the way he is "attempting" to play.
In all fairness, there were lots of calls predraft to land a DB or two with high draft picks. I posted many times that we had to solidify the OL first , and then let the rest of the team be formed around them. Well, we did a whale of a job on the OL solidification job, but that didn't make our DBs any better. I still love what we did to finally, build an OL, and wouldn't change anything we did. As Mayo said, we need to burn hi picks on DBs next yr. We were so bad across the board, that we needed help everywhere. OL is now ok. Qb ok, Receivers ok. RBs really okay. LBs/ DL okay. DBs....that is now our problem, and i would be looking at everyone's practice squad, seeing if there is a guy or two we could claim who would beat out nate the not so great, reggie, etc.. Also, i would run in and out any UDFA DB who can fog a mirror, bring them in , give a try, and then try the next guy. Somewhere, somehow there has to be a DB or two out there that is being protected for the future, or has been overlooked, etc. We should be turning over every rock in NFL land...trying to find that DB.
As noted above, there is another possibility, and that is to change coaching techniques to "protect" our DBs. Obviously our guys are playing waaaaaay off the LOS, and we are virtually giving the oppositon 7-8 yds anytime they want it. What's the matter with changing up coaching schemes with guys who can't cover and see if there is a scheme in which they can. To coach as if one size fits all is stupid, and truly great coaches take individual weaknesses into consideration. Our D coaching staff needs to try different things with our DBs. Giving up 7 yds a crack is stupid. Taking receivers on at the LOS if they have trouble covering is just one of many other things our coaches should try out. Right now they are just conceding 7-8 yds every down, and that is a loser. C'mon Manusky, get creative. You've got a bunch of guys out there who can't cover, are slow, get lost, etc. Change things around, see if some other scheme works for the guys who are getting beat like a drum. If your planned D doesn't work, make adjustments....or as noted above, bring every guy who has played college ball as a DB in for a tryout. What are you afraid of...that they will do worse? That seems unlikely.

We'll be fine. But yea, time to start addressing age with draft picks. Mays should be good to go by next year, Adams is coming along nicely too.

If LaBoy, Brooks or Brigs is in the game. I haven't seen Manny or Parys even come close to touching a quarterback.

I think it has ALOT to do with preseason. One thing i do like alot is Reggie Smith he has potential to be one bad man.
I was born in Oklahoma, I have spent 50% of my life in TX 50% in OK so i watch every single game OU plays Cheer for em every year (not always safe living in TX lol) so i know alil about Reggie Smith. he is one of them guys that can make a game changing play at any moment BUT he is very inconsistency on coverage he will be there on every play, but he likes (and does sometimes) to try for picks when sometimes you just need to stick with your man. H seems to be changing his ways tho and i hope he has a long productive Careers as a 49er.
Yes reggie got burnt last year, but he has most def shown up this preseason. Mike lewis will be on the bench after the bye week. (either Reggie or mays)
In the hell are you talking about? Louis Murphy made Reggie Smith his b*tch in week 3 on that long pass. That was Roman-esque right there.
The fact that Reggie smith's jersey isn't the closest one to every defensive mistake, makes him better than roman already.
