Boone or Sims?

Give this man a cigar!

I second that! Synder is warm garbage. He has continuously been beaten at G and OT.

I would rather keep Boone and Sims and let Synder walk. I see NO potential in Synder at all!
I'm starting to think that Snyder may be the odd man out. Versatility doesn't amount to much if he sucks at every position he plays.

But if its Boone v Sims, then Sims loses. He's only good for pass pro, and there's nowhere to go but down for him.

Offensive line. This one is tougher to call. Last year the 49ers went into the season with nine offensive linemen on their active roster. The starters right now are, from left to right, Joe Staley, Mike Iupati, David Baas, Chilo Rachal and Anthony Davis. Eric Heitmann's leg injury is not long-term, so he's No. 6. Tony Wragge can play all three interior positions and is needed as a backup center while Heitmann is out. Adam Snyder can play all five positions. That means if the 49ers go with nine again this year, they'd have to decide what is more valuable: Barry Sims' experience or Alex Boone's potential. Boone is practice-squad eligible.

I don't think we keep more than nine lineman this year, and because of the media exposure Boone has received, I'm not sure he doesn't get picked up by another team. So the choice becomes who do we keep? Sims performed admirably last year when Staley went down, but Boone could be even better than Sims and has played well this preseason. However I think the team goes with Sims because they know just what they have. Or we could just cut both and use Nate Davis as Tackle because he throws bombs.

He is still a good back up or potential trade bait. We have some good players that can be traded so the new guys can step in.
Sims hands down. He's got swagger lol. seriously it's a no brainer. he's a seasoned vet and has by far the hottest wife on the team

I also think it is more likely that Snyder or Wragge are released or traded.

On a side note isn't great to actually be in a position to make tough roster decisions?

On topic though this one is really tough and would be one to wait to the very last minute to make.

At the moment I'm inclined to roll the dice and put Boone on the practice squad. My logic is that in Staley and Davis we don't project a need for a Tackle for a long time so even if you lose Boone it's not like it's a huge blow to the team. We could just draft a Tackle in the later rounds of the draft for depth/project.

If Boone continues to play strong though I think I would lean on finding someway to keep him on the roster as he does have more upside and what will be a longer shelf life than Sims does.
Have to go with Boone, he's younger and if he's put on the practice squad he'll be picked up in an instant.

I like Wragge as the top backup at the interior spots, so yes, keep Sims and Boone. Say g'bye to Snyder. Trade him to Seattle for a later round pick.

Or we can actually get by with keeping 10 OL this year. It is not unheard of...

Keeping ten O-Linemen could very well be the way we start the season until Heitmann gets back, then the brass make the call on Sims, Boone or Snyder.

Keep Sims. In terms of success this year, I could care less about Boone's "potential". A lot of players have potential that is never realized.

Sims performed damn well in Staley's absence last year. 35 years old or not, if we need to call upon someone, he can fill in right away and has proven he can handle it.

This is our year, no time to worry about the distant future, especially if we can land someone in the draft next year should Boone get picked up.

Yeah, just a route they may want to consider. I can't see another player we should add that we just REALLY need to... so we could keep 10 OL this season.

Scroll down a short ways till you see the SF chart for the way we have operated with personnel since 2003.

Just looking at last year and using those numbers as a base, we can go
-1 WR... +1 RB... +1 TE... +1 OL... -1 DL... +1 LB... -2 DB

and still have guys like DL K. Mitchell, CB Stoudamire, S Curtis Taylor, etc on the practice squad if needed

If we stick with nine on the OL I'd keep Curtis Taylor on the 53 man.

Taylor would be a good choice, but I'm thinking Khaliff Mitchell has more inherent worth to us. He can play both DE and NT fairly well, and can replace Evans next season on the roster. If Franklin goes and we promote RJF, then Mitchell can be subbed in as his backup also. Assuming we resign Goldson, we are looking pretty good there with he + with Reggie Smith and Taylor Mays. That, and I think Mitchell would be more likely to get snagged off our PS than would Taylor.

my 2 cents...
