Is Baas permanent answer at center?

Looks like all the sport writers disagree with Maddog, They all think he looked really good. They must all be crazy band wagon homers

As for the thread on Baas not giving up a pressure in the Minnesota game, I have no idea what game Lynch was watching. Baas almost gave up a sack on one play, as we all saw, and Oldman9er chronicled in his offensive line rundown, and got away with a hold that would have been a second pressure.

Stingers usually aren't very serious. I think we're okay.

I hear you. But it seems routine for players to leave games with stingers, only to return later in the same game.

Do I believe Baas is the permanent answer at center? No. Heitmann is underated by some in this thread it would seem.

That being said, Baas is looking like he is going to be able to do a good job in Heitmann's absence. Let's hope this stinger, doesn't linger...

Is Baas the permanent answer at center? Who knows. But he is younger than Heitmann with less and wear and tear on him. Also it might take Heitmann a bit to get back into the action and gel with the rest of the group.

I think this might have been the break Baas needed to prove that he is worth keeping around. Bottom line is that this a good problem to have for the 49ers. Depth on the O-line is not something we're used to.

So Baas is really playing well at center. The line as a whole looks really good. If this keeps up is it a possibility? I have kind of discounted it until now, but if the line continues to play solid into the season will the coaches mess with it when Heitmann returns?

See this is the thing I am trying to say.

If you take some glue and glue a chair together with it, and an hour later your friend walks in and says,
"Hey, I got some better glue, you know the glue we always use and has always worked in the past, take the chair apart and use the better glue."

That is what this argument is like. Baas is not only playing just as good as Heitmann, but he is gelling with the line real well. Why mess it up? Because its not FAIR???

These types of things happen all the time in the NFL and in life. Its not "fair", but if our line continues to play well, how on earth can we risk messing up the chemistry in the name of fairness?
Heitmann not only has to rehab, but he then has to get back into football shape, and then he has to "pull a Franklin" and get ready to play in a few days.

What if we are winning? What if Gore is running for tons of yards behind our new line? How can we mess with that?

Life is not fair.
And Baas should remain the starter IF him and our line continue to find success in what they are currently doing.
Not because I hate Heitmann or like Baas, but because life isn't fair, and its the most reasonable thing to do.

Oh they'll mess with it.

But when the 1st instance of the failing Line presents itself Baas will go right back into service. Sing knows that even though he's under a long contract, he doesn't have time on his side. No matter what Jed says.

Personally I think that Heitmann should play Guard when he returns. Replacing Chilo and let Chilo be the number 2 at Guard so he can get the Reps and grow into a Guard spot. Preferably LG, but Iupati won't be letting that spot go as long as the Line keeps up this level of play. And "almost allowing a sack and getting away with a hold" is not the same as allowing and getting called for it. Heitmann has allowed numerous sacks. Not on his own, but they happened nonetheless.

So the choice, when they are both healthy, is Heitman at center and Baas at guard or Baas at center and Heit at guard.

Either way, Rachal looks like he comes out second best?
