Besides I think Mawae's movement is stronger than Heitmann.

Heitmann has the brains for the job, and that is why he gets all the coach's praise. He knows the playbook, the audibles, etc. But physically, yes he is a "weak link". He is the reason we don't get a push up the middle. Now what gets me is the fact this is not new information. It's been talked about for a couple of years now. So since he knows the plays/calls inside and out, why hasn't he dedicated a bit more time to the weight room? He's had plenty of time to bulk up and get stronger...yet hasn't. Does he like getting stood up at the line?

I think that MB got his Medical Herb card recently. Cause that is not a good distinction when you're considered the best player on an OLine that is basically CRAP from Tackle to Tackle for the better part of the last 8 years.

We all know this to be true. You can put lipstick and rouge on it but it's still a Pig when you roll over in the morning. Just cause it had a blonde wig on it the night before changes nothing.

So, following your logic, the player that the local media (who cover the team for a living, and have access to coaches, scouts, players, GM's, opposing players, opposing coaches, opposing scouts), and even you yourself (see note on what you just typed) think is the best on this line, is injured, the team is suddenly better. Brilliant logic!!

The Great One, David Baas, who has not even won the job from Tony Wragge, and was given a massive........1 year contract, is going to save the day...because he played really well at center for Michigan.......6 years ago. The same Immortal David Baas who just lost his starting position, at LG, to a rookie....from Idaho.

Well, hallelujah, salvation has happened to this team. Super Bowl bound!!!

Screw continuity, screw the tutoring of a rookie LG, screw Heitmann's team captainship as any indication of how the players on the team feel about his talent and leadership, someone on this board continues to have subjective feelings that he is not a good football player (which has been thoroughly debunked from the 99 page "Eric Heitmann is a Good Football Player" thread). Why do you continue to embarrass yourself?

P.S. I got your memo that the sun is square, and that aliens brought E-coli to planet earth. Thanks!!!

The bottom line is that anyone who thinks this is an improvement to the team is a certifiable moron. I will send you a hat to confirm this honor. And, here is why:
Do you think that there is some magical powder that has made all the head coaches, positional coaches (who actually watch the performances of the players snap by snap and watch hundreds of hours of film, play by play), players, media, scouts delusional . That all the professionals, except for a handful of guys typing on this forum are blinded to reality...that Heitmann is a liability. Think about how absurd of a world you live in. You should demand that the Niners fire Singletary right away for stupidity (and then call Nolan, Erickson, and Mariucci and give them a tongue lashing, demanding that they apologize for starting Heitmann). You should also demand that Solari resign, since he also has no idea what he is doing, all the other previous OL coaches, all the OC's (including Mike Martz..who is pretty damn good at offense), and all of the scouts that watch tape of every snap in every game. They obviously are all incompetent. Next, call the Sac Bee and Conta Costa papers, and demand that MB and PB visit a psychiatrist. Next, call up MM and tell him he is an idiot. And, also call CBS and Fox to demand the firing of the broadcasters who have been praising Heitmann for his play that past few years. All of these people are idiots.

Finally, we have to scrap this whole team since they continue to honor Heitmann with the captain title. Obviously, this is the stupidest team on the planet, or they are blind, or psychotic.

Bonus question: Name the one position on offense the Niners have not drafted in the draft the past two years? Here are your choices:
QB, RB/FB, OT, OG, C, WR, TE

Take a wild guess which one has not been addressed? Hint: It starts with a "C".
In fact, I'll go one step forward. Let's look at defense. Looky here: All of these positions have drafted a player in the last two years: DT, DE, LB, CB, S.

So, the Niners, so concerned about the play of their starting center this year....don't draft one, because they have a journeyman, career-backup center in Wragge, and a guy who was benched and on a one-year contract in Baas.

Just admit it, you have no idea what the h@ll you are talking about. Or continue to live in your odd, twisted world where everyone in this organization and league is a moron, and you are the shining beacon of sanity. Demand the Niners start firing their GM, head coach, OL coach, and OC for incompetence. Rebuke the players for their idiocy.

Cheers.

LOLOL! I completely agree with mad! Heitman is undervalued by webzoners! It's a set back, but at least he might only miss 1-2 games!!
There is no question Heitmann will be back this season

Early Reports and folks on this board are saying he will miss 1-2 games during the regular season and be back.

Yes he will be back, his leg will heal. However I dont think he will be in game form until halfway through the season.

Thats why we should sign Mawae to a one year deal. He can start and serve as a back up if Heitmann plays solid.
Jeez MD, didn't have your coffee this morning?... i kid, i kid...

Losing your team captain, the anchor or your line, the guy who MB declared today to be the 49ers best linemen the past few years, and the tutor for a very green rookie at LG is never a good thing. Especially to a journeyman interior lineman or guy who just lost his job to a rookie.

Cheers.

I agree and the biggest thing is calling protections. I think Wallace must really struggle with the mental part of the game thus Baas getting those reps. After the qb and MLB the center has the most responsibility when it comes to protection and pre snap reads.
he cant play with a broken leg!?!?!?

This is football and everyone plays with a broken leg at some point

Whoa! Maddog, step back from the ledge!

You're right, Heitmann's freakish injury is not a good thing for the team.

Changing and replacing 2 of 5 starters wasn't going to be easy. Changing/replacing 3/5 is surely a challenge for the team.

Heitmann's knowledge and experience will be hard to replace.

But its not the end of the world. No need to go ballistic or insane about it.

Your reaction here shows how deeply devoted to Heitmann you are, and that's admirable, considering that he's never risen any higher than being named Captain of a truly awful line (Cheddar's point). We're not talking about the loss of a Joe Montana, a Steve Young, a Jerry Rice, or a Randy Cross or Jesse Sapolo (sp).

Fortunately, it looks like Heitmann may not be out all that long. Six to eight weeks. Equally fortunately, the team has several players who appear capable of filling the void while he's gone--perhaps explaining why they haven't drafted a center since they took Wallace a couple of seasons ago.

And Heitmann, himself, announced his willingness and desire to continue to help the youngsters adapt while he recovers. You would undoubtedly agree, even when healthy, his most important contribution appears to be his knowledge, and he can continue to share that while he's out.

As to his replacement, I'm with you there--let's let the coaching staff, those who know the players far better than the fans or the media--decide who takes over at center for now.

But make no mistake, the next 6 to 8 weeks will allow the coaching staff to reevaluate the center position and see for themselves if Heitmann's inconsistencies can be improved upon by some other player.

Like Bowman said, "a good man goes down, another one has to step up."

PS. Please stay away from any bridges or tall buildings for the next day or so.

Dude can I get one of those hats? They sound pretty stylish, size 7 5/8 and please make it trucker style.

Seriously though, sh*t happens, Heitmann was underrated by a forum who wants to place blame on anyone they can, but he's gone and now we move on for the first 2 games. Baas proved capable in college and has played along side Heitmann for the past couple seasons, hopefully he steps it up. In terms of pure run blocking ability Baas stood out to me more than Heitmann, but Heitmann's value was calling out the defenses which who knows if Baas is even capable of at this level.
While I personally doubt it does, I am REALLY hoping the line play inproves at
C while Heitmann is out. It will forever blacken any credibility of one particular poster, which would hopefully result in an extended, if not permanent, absence from the forum except maybe the month of March and April.
