As uninspiring as QB Alex Smith's play has been this practice, backup QB David Carr has been even worse. He's already been picked off twice and looks uncomfortable throwing anything besides checkdowns. QB Nate Davis might challenge him before long.

LOL, I thought Smith was firing deep TD passes this morning...and now his play was "uninspiring?"

This is why I never take any of these reports too seriously. These are the same reports that lauded JTO.

Along with the coaches... He did beat Smith out didnt he?

Smith was still hurt now wasn't he!!!

Come on! Don't use a broken bone in his throwing shoulder as an excuse!!!!!

JTO won the job because he knew Martz's gay offense better, get your facts straight. How's JTO doin now?

Certainly not getting any starting gigs handed to him without earning it like someone else I know.

lol Alex Smith is in no way shape or form being "handed" a starting gig. He has most certainly earned it, by playing in 9 1/2 games, putting up numbers like he had played an entire 16 game season, having a BETTER QB rating than Peyton Manning. And now with continuity this season with the same OC, good numbers from last season for only playing in 9 1/2 games, there's no reason Alex Smith doesn't deserve the starting job. Not to mention the fact that he's molded into a fine leader supposedly.

And the fact he lost the starting job to JTO before he re-aggravated his shoulder, CLEARLY means that his throwing arm/shoulder, was never 100% back to the way it was to START with.

Peyton Manning had a QB rating of 99 last year compared to Smith's 80, so Im not sure about your math on that one... but thats besides the point. My biggest issue is that all of those stats were achieved out of the spread formation and a good chunk of them were against soft, prevent defenses.

Until Smith shows that he can be a productive out of a pro-style offense (i.e. operating from under center), our offense will never achieve enough balance to be successful over a 16 game season.

I sincerely hope that he proves me wrong, but Im not getting my hopes up.

Who the f**k cares "how" he produced the numbers he did. The fact is he played better than he ever has before in his career. You really are making "Alexcuses".

Wouldnt an "Alexcuse" come from a supporter of the kid trying to validate his accomplishments, not a critic trying to do the opposite? I think you might be mistaken in your idea of what an excuse is.

You're making excuses as to why Smith was successful last year. By basically saying, oh, he only produced all of his good stats while in the spread/shotgun formation. Like get real dude.

Get the f**k out of here already with the on-going Alex Smith bulls**t! There is a dedicated thread for you long-lash-loving, Alexcuse-making, fans so go there and stop ruining this thread!

Not nice...

lol that was one pass and you said it like it was more than one pass. Give me a friggin break dude. You're starting to post like a troll against our QB. I don't even care if you think he's good or bad but all you post about is every negative thing you can nitpick. Not to mention your boy Shaun Hill used to throw 5-6 of those in dang near every single game he played.

LOL you replied to ME pal. If anyone's b***hing and throwing a hissy fit, it's your "27" childish ass.
Just watched my 2nd day of Cardinals camp, and I expect that they will announce a new QB by friday (Leinhart's play is all over the place, and yesterday the fans erupted into a Derek Anderson chant?). I also expect, based upon the level of practice violence and attitude, that the Card's defense will be shipped off to Afghanistan soon to supplant Obama's "surge".

I am a Longtime (40yrs) 49ers fan (began with Brodie & GW, TK, CK, TN, DW, etc.) and this is my very first post. This season is shaping up to be perhaps the most anticipated brawl in the NFC West since the early 70's (49ers & LA Rams)!

WOW great first post!

And great info too. Im interested in their QB situation.

welcome to the board! You really think we are in for a brawl? I think their D looks for big hits, and the O will be a mere shell of it's self with a new qb and less weapons!

Yeah, I'm kind of more scared of Anderson then Lienart though. The only season Anderson had a good OLine and some legit weapons he did reasonably well. If he replicates his good season we'd be kind of screwed. If they're stuck with Lienart we know they're stuck with a mediocre QB.

Ya, I had Anderson on my fantasy team that year and he exploded. But most of his passes were long routes to B.Edwards and K.Winslow Jr. He also had a really good O-line that allowed Jamal Lewis to get ~1200yds (somewhere in the vicinity)
