no doubt, start him week 1 in seattle, loud stadium, pumped up crowd it will be very good for him, plus they have a questionable pass rush

no news is good news if you ask me. Last thing I wanna read is, "Starting LB for the 49ers Patrick Willis goes down in TC with an ACL tear."

# Boone v. Brooks highlights one on one blocking drills. I'll have more on that later in my blog. 9 minutes ago via UberTwitter

# Rookie CB Phillip Adams knocks ball away from wr Jason Hill. Adams has been solid, but his ticket to the team is on special teams.

i know that hes very raw but the only way he will learn is by getting beat so im acually happy this is happeneing however i hope this will stop by the end of TC

Especially from a "pass-rushing specialist" like Brooks. Failure is a much better teacher than success. Hopefully Davis is just a sponge right now and learning what he can as fast as he can.

Its a little bit disheartening that Davis isn't as ready to replace the incumbent as Iupati is. But either way, by mid-season both guys should be starters.

But then again you also have to remember that filling the 'Tackle' position from day one in the NFL is WAY HARDER than coming in at the guard spot (which is why promising 4-star tackles are usually drafted higher than guards).

If we want Davis to succeed we're gonna have to start him early, and endure the growing pains for his learning curve to grow. Hell, I'd rather have young Anthony Davis "mess-up" and improve rather than watch Adam Snyder "mess up" and continue to deteriorate.

I completely agree. And with a healthy Chilo (c'mon buddy), Davis will at least have a veteran to help with his expected rookie mistakes.

Which is a definite possibility. But if we want to be a playoff team, you have to act like one. And that means beating the lesser opponents away and playing with the superbowl contenders.

from cbs sportslines Rapid Reports

As uninspiring as QB Alex Smith's play has been this practice, backup QB David Carr has been even worse. He's already been picked off twice and looks uncomfortable throwing anything besides checkdowns. QB Nate Davis might challenge him before long.

LOL, I thought Smith was firing deep TD passes this morning...and now his play was "uninspiring?"

This is why I never take any of these reports too seriously. These are the same reports that lauded JTO.

Along with the coaches... He did beat Smith out didnt he?

Smith was still hurt now wasn't he!!!

Come on! Don't use a broken bone in his throwing shoulder as an excuse!!!!!

JTO won the job because he knew Martz's gay offense better, get your facts straight. How's JTO doin now?

Certainly not getting any starting gigs handed to him without earning it like someone else I know.

lol Alex Smith is in no way shape or form being "handed" a starting gig. He has most certainly earned it, by playing in 9 1/2 games, putting up numbers like he had played an entire 16 game season, having a BETTER QB rating than Peyton Manning. And now with continuity this season with the same OC, good numbers from last season for only playing in 9 1/2 games, there's no reason Alex Smith doesn't deserve the starting job. Not to mention the fact that he's molded into a fine leader supposedly.

And the fact he lost the starting job to JTO before he re-aggravated his shoulder, CLEARLY means that his throwing arm/shoulder, was never 100% back to the way it was to START with.

Peyton Manning had a QB rating of 99 last year compared to Smith's 80, so Im not sure about your math on that one... but thats besides the point. My biggest issue is that all of those stats were achieved out of the spread formation and a good chunk of them were against soft, prevent defenses.

Until Smith shows that he can be a productive out of a pro-style offense (i.e. operating from under center), our offense will never achieve enough balance to be successful over a 16 game season.

I sincerely hope that he proves me wrong, but Im not getting my hopes up.

Who the f**k cares "how" he produced the numbers he did. The fact is he played better than he ever has before in his career. You really are making "Alexcuses".

Wouldnt an "Alexcuse" come from a supporter of the kid trying to validate his accomplishments, not a critic trying to do the opposite? I think you might be mistaken in your idea of what an excuse is.

You're making excuses as to why Smith was successful last year. By basically saying, oh, he only produced all of his good stats while in the spread/shotgun formation. Like get real dude.

I kind of agree, but at the same time I really wish the begin of our schedule wasn't so brutal. It's important Alex stays healthy and up right.

P.S. Can we get some updates from those attending camp?

i like it that way when we win nobody can question the competition, we playing some tough teams out of the gate and the avg teams we are playing in their house in traditionally loud stadiums

Wow! I'm far from being a Smith supporter and am reluctant to give this guy a free ride because of all the "Alexcuses" (nice new term by the way), but this is the most confident I've heard this guy talk EVER... His demeanor says alot and it shows he's finally growing some balls.

Also, its the first time I see video of Ted Ginn and he is the quickest and fastest I've seen out of a receiver, especially on the 49ers, in a VERY LONG TIME!

I have a feeling that good things are coming....

Nice -- but did you also see the wounded duck wobblers he threw before that?

Not nice...
