I thought Lowell did a great job in that article, much more insightful and analytical than Kawakami's article. And I normally like Kawakami. With all due respect, I think the real issue is that Lowell is not telling you what you want to hear. If he was wrong, Smith would be locked up to a long term contract right now, but he's not. Last time I checked, Smith is in the last year of his contract and there is zero chance of extension until he finally does something on the field other than lay an egg.
