how many of you just showed your football ignorance..
NOTE: how i also mentioned 3-4 OLB..there are better 4-3 coverage OLB's in the league, however these guys would more than likely play inside in the 3-4
he gets taken out for Brooks who is NOT a defensive back. Takeo Spikes is the one gets taken out for a DB. We are not the one who showed our football ignorance
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Gotta love it when people question other people's football intelligence only to show their own lack of said intelligence.
Oh, and guess why he gets replaced by Brooks? Because BROOKS CAN DO THE PRIMARY JOB OF AN OLB ON PASSING DOWNS, which is to RUSH THE GODD*MN PASSER!

Why do fans always turn against players who are just doing what's best for them?
Same thing with all the "f**k you Crabtree" hater posts when he held out.

its not an impressive number, but he did miss most of that one season after tearing his acl, so its closer to 12 in 3, but we still expected more
OK, so instead of averaging 3 sacks per year, he averages 4 in your book.
BIG difference there.

I guess because both players in question haven't proven anything.

Personally, I was never on the kill moneytree bandwaggon. I always believed Crabtree would produce after watching him play in college, and then hearing him talk about his drive to be the best. Manny, on the other hand, has had a less than spectacular pro career so far, and doing this the day after Willis got his contract extended only adds fuel to the fire. '06-'08 were excusable considering he was a rookie, and then he needed time to get back into form after tearing his knee. With that said, last year he still didn't show anything special, so I wouldn't lose any sleep if we let him walk at this point.

After the coaching staff realized he wasn't as effective rushing the passer as they'd hoped, they changed his role. After that he's done his job well. It wouldn't be really difficult to replace him, but it isn't necessary either.
He's skipping "voluntary" team activities. He isn't "holding out" for a contract. There has been no official word from him or his agent. Until he starts skipping mandatory activities or publicly states that he is going to hold out for a contract, this is all just hearsay and rumor.
What I find interesting is that the front office hasn't felt the need to acquire more talent at OLB. Nothing in the draft and one free agent... Travis LaBoy, for one year. Guess his career high for sacks... yeah, 6.5. What makes him deserve more money than Lawson, I wonder?
It just doesn't seem to me that the team is real worried about the OLB position.
It is still my opinion that Lawson is a valuable asset to this team and he should be retained at a reasonable price.
I think the coaches feel they don't have to address the OLB position because they have a few players waiting in the wings that they seem to be quite fond of, namely Brooks, AND they had other positions of need that were more pressing and deserved more focus. People love to take facts like this (not addressing the position) to mean the staff thinks so-and-so is a good player. We didn't really address the O-Line for several years, did that mean the staff thought the guys on the line were good? Obviously not.

OMG, WHO CARES!
is he demanding huge money? probably not. if all he is askiing for is an extension what is the big deal? if all he wants si something like brooks where is not in a contract year. give it to him. he is a solid player that can do many things.

Can we lock this stupid thread now? Seems some people need to improve their reading comprehension a little.
This is way way way WAY too blown out of proportion.

To be fair, I am not "turning against" Lawson, I never did think much of the guy. I understand people supporting everyone on the team for the simple fact that they are Niners, but some of us actually want to be a GOOD TEAM with GOOD PLAYERS, not a mediocre team with mediocre players. I like Michael Lewis, but he's not exactly irreplaceable at this point and we need an upgrade, which is why we drafted Taylor Mays. Same thing with Lawson. He can't handle his primary duty and gets taken out on passing downs. We can definitely upgrade his position, yet he wants more money. Personally, I think Brooks is better than him and, all stats aside, Travis LaBoy may be as well.

Here's an idea: why don't you lock yourself out of this thread instead of b*tching and trying to get it shut down? Nobody forces you to come in here.
