Because Smith is still like what 26?

So if he breaks out then we're set at QB for the next decade.
If he plays at a Drew Brees level, then a. The Saints went 8-8 two years in a row, but everyone knew Brees was a stud. Although, that might mean our defense went to hell.

just because he breaks out means he can be a franchise QB for a decade???? You lost me.

And you would rather have Smith succeed than make the playoffs, with a shot at the Superbowl. WOW

franchise qb /w the kind of defense we have = contender every year

that is optimistic, but i would still rather make the playoffs than to be considered a "contender every year" -- which is not guaranteed anyways.
Damned if we do and Damned if we don't.
i can't imagine us going 11-5 without at least a promising season from Smith.

Voted for 'A' Because 'A' leads to long-term results. Any number of flukes could lead to a 11-5 record...look at some of the teams that have posted great records only to fall apart the next year.

Also a very weak division/record this year; We will beat on 3 teams in the AFC West, will take 2 from the NFC South, and 5 in division.

That's 10 wins...one extra win vs. New Orleans, Atlanta, Philly, Green Bay, or San Diego puts us at 11 wins.

But sustained success from Smith is huge.
Lol would we go 11-5 with s**tty QB play??? That possible?
B. W/ Smith leading the plow through the playoffs to the SB! Legends are made in the Playoffs!

This is a really bad Topic. It seems like more of a trap question than an honest one. Let me make it simple for you:

If Alex shows improvement then the team will win more games. If Alex is the same as last year, then he will either be benched, or may limp to an 8-8 , 9-7 finish and then will be cut. History shows that great records are not had without consistent QB play.

This is the proverbial Straw Man argument - you are creating two false premises and asking someone to pick between two illogical statements.
proven qb play would top one showing in the playoffs for me. even if we made it this year with crappy play from smith we would then end up drafting a qb next year and more than likely miss several playoffs after. we already know that drafting a qb is risky and you never know what you will get.

B easily. If we go 11-5 with crappy QB play that would mean 14-2 and a Super Bowl with a decent quarterback.

If Smith has a huge year and we go 8-8, I don't think the defense would have done very well
