I guess we should trade him. Might as well get something for him. And he doesn't deserve a new contract yet. ...Still needs to prove himself.

MattMaiocco: Starter Manny Lawson, is scheduled to earn $625,000 in base pay. He wants new deal, and 49ers want to see him perform in final year of deal.

I'll believe it when it happens. A lot of false trade rumors happen a day before the draft.

Do you think for one moment that if we were to put a PR stud like Porter, Ware or Woodley on the other side of Lawson that he wouldn't pick up 2-4 more sacks and make more plays?
This isn't rocket science. NC is dazzling with BS. You put a dominant player at Haralsons spot (you know, the spot the rush is generally generated from) and Many all the sudden is putting up 8-10 sacks a season and making more plays. THATS how it works.....
Ummm, OK. I'll cover it again...Lawson WAS a WILL his rookie season and didn't have a pass rush and was moved to the SAM. In recent years, he's been completely removed in pass rushing situations. So, if we had a dominant PR @ the WILL (which I #1 agree we need also), what makes you think suddenly Manny will be a dominant PR himself? What evidence do you base this huge assumption on? And if you haven't noticed, we just signed two more OLB's with better pass rush abilities over Manny (Brooks & LeBoy).
Manny is nothing more then a 1st and 2nd down LB on THIS team and he certainly won't be an every down LB next year (assuming he's still with us).
If you value a LB who's only used on 1st and 2nd downs and ST's that's cool. I think most fans would like an every down LB who #1 is a very good pass rusher #2 sets the edge and sniffs out screen passes #3 can drop back in zone coverage once in a while and maybe even make a play here and there.
I think Manny is a good 1st and 2nd down LB but overall, and for what the position requires, average. Period. IMHO, we should have higher standards and not just settle b/c he's really good at one thing.
It seems obvious to me that the coaching staff has zero confidence in Manny's ability to get to the QB. I have a feeling that has hamstrung Manusky and even more so with an ineffective Haralson on the other side.
I stopped at "rookie season" of the 1st sentence. There is no argument there at all and you know it. Knock it off Nc, i see what your doing and im not being snowed.
Either that or this of the worst arguments I've seen from you.
Ill sum up how I understand your argument to be sure.
Lawson struggled as a rookie so was moved from WILL. That is proof that he has no PR. He is not good in your opinion because he plays in a position not traditionally known for being the main source of sacks, yet didn't put up sacks consistently enough for his position. That while he did have more sacks than the guy who was playing the position that iiisss supposed to be the main sack source, it was still deficient cause he didn't contribute to 50% or higher in regard to total sacks. You think Lawson is a decent LB against the run , and decent against the pass, but nothing special and easily replaced.
I also perceive that you ignored my stance, and others, that he plays a position not generally known for being the main sack source, and that he plays across from a guy who provides less pressure than he himself does, which is very abnormal...normally. That it makes complete sense that if Lawson had a dominant PR opposite him that would allow all that much more opportunity, and even a small increase of 10% in tackles and 2 sacks a season puts him right next to other players that you use as examples to prove Lawson is meh.

Just noticed on MM twitter, he makes less than the other olbs. He might not deserve a new contract yet, but he should be making more than those other guys.

He signed the contract, and has not played to exceed the contract.

I'm not saying he should be breaking the bank, but he is certainly better than those other guys. I would feel slighted too, if I know I outperformed the other guys, but is getting paid less.

Not a good trade, LaBoy is yet unproven; and Manny is a Productive NFL player(reason why other teams are interested). He wants a fair salary and $625k is Not!; there's also no guarantee that a draft pick will even make the team. Manny is just coming to his own and now the 49er management wants to trade him. Not the smartest move!

You mean to tell me Haralson, a guy who whiffed on two crucial plays against the Titans and Eagles should be be paid more than him. A situational player in Brooks should also be paid more than him. And Laboy, a guy who can't stay healthy should be paid more than him. I don't think so.

I'll say this, if the management does trade him(Manny), their actions would reaffirm the same old same ol management philosophy/policy which has been plaguing the 49ers since late 90s(clueless)

so you're saying some team is going to trade us a 1st round pick for Manny. Or are you going to use up one of the two(13th/17th) 1st round picks we have to replace what we'll lose? then pay Graham a big contract and have him learn the position for the next few years(before we trade him for the next schmuck)
