He was the highlight of the 09 off season until he got injured on an acrobatic catch. I think he deserves a shot this year based on all of the reports of how good he was doing in practice. He should be healed by now.
Hill > Jones
Jones could be a very nice 4th wr, but not at what we paid him! One of our worst FA signings in recent memory.
Not according to the Matt's observations from last camp. Hill has always been the odd man out because he can never stay healthy, but I remember Jones being the best receiver on the field when all were practicing together.
We all know the money he's making makes no sense, but we may be surprised.
Camp? Come on dude. Those are drills, I want someone who can play in games. He didn't get on the field cause he wasnt as good as the other players.
Oh yeah, and Hill was all over the place right??
Jason Hill Stats
9 Rec for 90 yds in 11 games!
Don't get me wrong.... I'm not all over Jones' nutz because he has a lot to prove. I just don't think Hill is better than him.
We can argue all day long about Hill vs. Jones but it's a moot point if we don't have an offensive scheme that gets these guys in the game esp. on a consistent basis. Ideally, Alex would excel with a solid pass blocking line along with a spread in Crabtree, Morgan, Jones & Hill and feeding Gore and Davis to keep defenses honest and then a HEAVY dose of Gore in the second half. Sound familiar? That was the blue print for the old-school niners. Pass to set up the run, build a lead by passing and dictating defenses and then run the ball well in the second half to preserve the win and keep defenses off balance.
But it ALL comes down to the philosophy, talent along the o-line and coaching (in player development and game-planning).
So let's stop debating over WR's that, at best, get 1 or 2 catches a year and focus on what really matters.
