It's heresay anyway. No one knows for sure what the reason is.

If true he did alright for being drunk.

1) 2 first round picks in this year's draft
2) Lobbied hard to get Patrick Willis
3) Took Crabtree when he fell to us
4) Signed Justin Smith a 2010 pro bowler

Pass it over here Scot

When I'm drunk, I function normal aside from the slower reaction time and coordination issues. My mind still functions and I would know who is a good player and who sucks ass. The problem was he was missing meetings and showing up to the job drunk. I am fairly confident I can do my job drunk, but if I went in wasted I would be fired immediately. McCloughan's position obviously came with more freedom than mine does, so he was able to get away with it for a while.

And you're smoking some of that bomb sh*t if you think McCloughan was the only one involved in talks to make those trades and signings.

2 first round picks in 3 of the last 5 drafts.

I don't care if he was a drunk. We are where we are because of him.

Yes, we are in the middle of mediocrity because of him. You're right.

we'll see. we all expect to win the west this year, and if we do so it will be with a roster compiled largely by Nolan and McCloughan.

Regardless, I don't even give a s**t about why Scot left/was fired/whatever anymore. He did some good things with us, some stupid things, and some things which are still TBD. Time to move on.

I used to work around drunks on a shady night shift at one point in my life and their faces were as red as our new home uniforms!!!

Scot has always been an edgy/nervous guy, I think his problems with booze hardened the moment he became GM, the added pressure/extended requirements of the position put a toll on Scot and his family it sounds like.

If this is true then Jed had a good reason to act on this the moment he found out, regardless of how close were are to the draft. -Cause there's a good chance Jack Daniels told Scot to draft Kentwan Balmer!

guaranteed 100% of us fans said WTF when balmer was picked by us still upset by this

I don't know where you were when we picked Balmer, but I was at the Niner Draft Party in Santa Clara with a couple thousand other fans. The Balmer pick, while not what most wanted, was more warranted than the Chilo Rachal over Desean Jackson pick. Joe Staley and Adam Snyder were standing right next to me when we picked Rachal and both of them, along with 95% of the crowd let out a big "what the f*ck?" Staley glanced over to me and my girlfriend right before the pick was read and he gave a name of a guy he thought we would pick (it wasn't Jackson, though I can't remember who he said), and right after the pick he got a look on his face similar to this --> and walked off. The whole crowd had been chanting Jackson's name and once Chilo's name was read, everyone was pissed.

We will be doing it with a roster largely compiled by MIKE NOLAN. Nolan had the final say in everything until 08, and we haven't drafted anyone truly worth mentioning in the 2 drafts that McCloughan has had the final say in except Crabtree, who doesn't even count because he fell right into our laps and was clearly the best option.

McCloughan can be credited for "lobbying" for Willis, but Nolan ultimately made the call. Same goes for Gore, VD and every big-named free agent we brought in while Nolan had complete control of the franchise.

Nolan was an awful coach, but a pretty decent talent evaluator. NOLAN brought us up to mediocrity talent-wise, but kept us in the lower portion of the league with his coaching. Scotty just "advised" Nolan and did NOTHING when he took over as GM and got authority to make the final call.

No, he's one of those guys that just yells to yell. He's as clueless if not more so than your average caller into sports talk radio.

I'm not a fan of Damon Bruce, but I highly doubt he would present this as fact on the radio, especially KNBR, if he didn't have a reliable source.

why dont you like damon bruce?

Thats very true.
while the scenario is plausible, i do think its over the line to go down this road.

i just want scenarios where other teams dont rebuild twice over in the time we can't even rebuild once. i really do hate kawakami and all his 'hate first' rhetoric but that said, he is right to label us a comedy of errors and to that end, its all the niners have ever been under the yorks or post debartolo. whether he deserved to be fired, never should have been hired or whatever else, this gm issue is redemption for all those that believe the niners are a lower rung organization. end of the day, 'those' people have all the ammnuition you could ever want.

my salvation is jed york, i was one of the rare few who wasnt offended by his insistance to not delve into the dirty kawakami type details of the issue. but only time will tell if he can get us back to respectability, he has plenty to fight against to get there.

Forced resignation - Leave - Fired, whatever, does not happen because of a divorce. A drunk makes a lot more sense

Nolan is quoted as saying he really only was only involved with 1st round picks for the most part, and that even those he and Scott always agree'd upon so he never had to use his authority to force the pick he wanted. Nolan said he was more involved in FA. Which is pretty much proven by our lack of activity ever since Nolan was no longer in charge.

We have no other choice as fans than to hope and pray that Jed York is indeed the man to return us to greatness. It appears he's in it for the long haul.
