In 2009, Solari's Seahawks gave up 41 sacks, one more than the 49ers. They finished 26th in rushing offense, one slot behind the 49ers.

The losses of left tackle Walter Jones, left guard Mike Wahle, and center Chris Spencer have decimated the Seahawks' offensive line. No member of Seattle's projected Week 1 unit returns at the same position, and three are new starters. Let's have a look:

LT Sean Locklear - Injury-prone right tackle playing out of position on left; undersized at 6'4/301.
LG Rob Sims - Started 16 games in '07, but deemed ineffective and lost job to Wahle in 2008.
C Steve Vallos - 2007 7th-round pick forced to start five games in 2008 for 4-12 Seahawks.
RG Mansfield Wrotto - Former college defensive tackle has seven career appearances, all in '08.
RT Ray Willis - Ten career starts in five seasons, all in '08 due to Locklear, Jones injuries.

** Jones is supposedly due back 4-6 weeks after his August 20 knee surgery. The optimistic end of that estimate would have Jones back for Week 2, but the odds are heavily against him. He's 35, already had microfracture surgery on the same knee this offseason, and is also dealing with a bad back. The Seahawks will be lucky if Jones is effective by Week 6.

** Wahle has retired.

** Rookie Max Unger has not cracked the lineup.

** Spencer has a torn quadriceps. Throughout his career, the 2005 first-round pick has never demonstrated the ability to recover quickly or stay healthy, making it through one 16-game campaign in four years. His timetable is 4-6 weeks, but again we see that as very optimistic.

Week-to-week shuffling on the Seahawks' offensive line all season appears inevitable.

..... and this article was written right after TRAINING CAMP! ! WOW!

Wow if that happened to our o-line, we'd have 90 sacks.

This is true, but the chiefs were a slightly decent team at times, always missing one or two pieces that kept them from going deep in the playoffs.

Our Oline killed us, a better coach will improve our current players, if we draft oline, our oline improves +2.

Even with Raye's crappy play calling, another fraction of a second, and a lot of plays might have worked out..

Solari is a positive move!!!!!!!!!!!

Hell Yeah. I love this hire. I wanted him right outta KC, but better late then never. Best News I have heard since the Crabtree signing.

True.

Now all we need is a new OC and QB.

haven't you all heard of the Jimmy Raye coaching tree?

Every team in the league is trying replicate it.

nap time in the film room!

(i'm actually really happy about this hire)

All I care is Solari worked under the late great Bobb McKittrick and he is highly respected around the league.

I wouldn't mind us having the top rushing game in the league the way the chiefs did twice with solari as the O-line coach.

I like the hire.

Well, I see it this way: If the coaches are already familiar with each other and worked well together, that should always be a plus.

And honestly, if getting all those former Chiefs guys means our offense will be like the "3 Pro-Bowl-Linemen"-"4000-passing-yards-Trent-Green"-"Tony-Gonzalez-in-his-prime"-"Priest-Holmes-Fantasy-Football-Star"-Chiefs they used to resemble (not the "Matt Cassel, Dwayne Bowe and a bunch of practice squad guys"-abomination they are now), I think I can live with that

Not that I know jack about Solari, but according to the Zone this is the guy we've wanted all along! What a pleasant surprise to log in for the first time today and read this. I had to check and make sure it wasn't April 1st.

Is that light I see at the end of the tunnel? Now all we need to do is draft and aquire two top tier Olinemen.

Solari had McKittrick's Backing... (Mike Sando)

Quote:
Solari is a natural fit for the 49ers on several levels. He already knows the NFC West inside and out. His mentality should fit well with the mindset 49ers coach Mike Singletary has instilled in San Francisco. The fact that Solari worked extensively with 49ers offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye in Kansas City stands as another positive for the 49ers.

This move was clearly in the works. The 49ers allowed their line coach, Chris Foerster, to speak with the Redskins about a job on Mike Shanahan's staff. Foerster took that job Thursday and the 49ers announced Solari's hiring within hours. This hiring falls into the no-brainer category.
