There has been a Registry of Interest open in the UK since before Christmas, however I think this was exclusive to UK fans.

They will reserve a number of tickets for US fans making the trips, especially season ticket holders. I would have thought there will be an announcement on 49ers.com in regard to this.
I'm bummed we are losing a game on home turf. We play so much better at home -- we need all the advantages we can get!

i dunno why everyone is so worried about losing a home game.
we're not losing a home game!!

...the 8th home game will be in the playoffs.

I'd love to go but 3K for a round trip ticket is a bit steep. Besides Id have to take at least a week off of work to justify that kind of trip.
Does this mean our season ticket package will cost less???

Laaaaaame.

Totally didn't want to throw out a Home game for London, let alone the Broncos.
Its a good subplot for both teams. I'd rather play the broncos than the eagles. Plus if Marshall aint they they will be very bad!

How does the NFL choose the teams for these games? What is the process?

The 49ers just played an international game a couple years ago. Most of the teams in the league have never played an international game. How is it that we're double dipping (AND giving up a home game to boot)?

Answer: Low revenue team with a long losing streak and a decrepit stadium. The 49ers will be the league's whipping boy until we get a new stadium and start winning.

or it could mean that the Niners are loved in other countries as well

yes sir, the most popular NFL team outside the US

Is this based on actual data, or a straw poll at your local bar? I'd like to believe it's true, but the evidence I've found so far indicates that the Patriots and the Cowboys are the most popular teams in Europe generally, and the UK in particular.

I can tell you that in Ireland the most popular teams are the Patriots, Chargers, Giants and 49ers. Why you may ask? By far here (and i assume in the UK too) the large majority of NFL fans are gonna be between the ages of 18-25. Irish college students are allowed apply, and usually get summer visa's for the US. Easily the most popular destinations are Boston (Patriots), New York (Giants, in my experience its almost always the Giants, not the Jets), San Diego (Chargers) and San Francisco (49ers). I agree the Cowboys can be quite popular and i would bet they get a game next year.

So far the teams that have played in England include the Giants, Chargers and Patriots. The only team missing from my list is the 49ers. Make sense?

Yeah, it makes sense and I appreciate your explanation, though I'd still like to see some actual data based on merchandise sales and real polling. Nevertheless, it makes sense that college students would bring back NFL allegiances after spending a summer in New York, Boston, or San Francisco (which are well documented as being amongst the most popular US destinations).

So maybe I'm being a bit paranoid for thinking my team is getting the shaft by being asked to fly 13 hours to play in London and give up a home game but, man giving up a home game is huge.

Anyway, London's a lot closer to you than San Francisco. Hope you're going to the game to cheer for the 9ers.

I just got back from San Francisco, went to a 49ers game in November (The Titans game) Now i will get to see them again

Would be extremely difficult to get the numbers you are looking for. I understand the frustration for sure but just know that it will have a huge impact on adding thousands and thousands of more 49er fans around Europe. In England its gonna have a huge build up.

Yep, i read somewhere in this thread that they will only charge for 9 games and not 10 but you can buy the 10th game if you're planning on going to London.

Halloween in London. Hope that the club gets its bye week immediately after. Such a long flight home, after getting beat-up, will require extra rest and prep time for the following game.

No way, Niners are going to get a week to celebrate their win.

So if you buy season tickets does it include the London game or do you have to buy a seperate ticket?

I can not figure out why that a hole owner would not raise hell about being the home team. What a huge loss. For a team struggling to reach the playoffs a home game is huge. The Dork family continue to be the friggin worst owners in the NFL. Absolutely no backbone. Hell the Jag's owner said hell no to going to London.

I am pretty damn sure that the NFL compensates the team nicely for the lost home revenue. Since the Niners are near the bottom of the league in game day revenue, I'm thinking the Yorks were eager participants.

My main concern is how the missing a home game effects the outcome of next season as it pertains to making the playoffs, not the compensation.

The more fans we get the better. Also don't you think at some point this game is going to be played on a global scale? Maybe not anytime in the near future but I like the fact that the effort is being made and the Niners are a part of it.
