Apparently Vernon thinks so. -Chilo Rachal said he was inspired and upset by the criticism of his play when he struggled early in the season. "A lot people were taking shots at me at the beginning of the season," Rachal said. "And they were saying I was the bad guy, and I'm getting mishandled and this and that. But my play is speaking for itself and you guys can clearly see that, and it's just going to get better for next season. This is just the beginning, this is just the tip of the iceberg." Rachal did settle down after whiffing in pass protection and prompting coaches to rotate him with Adam Snyder. We'll see. He had a good game on Sun. (yeah it was against the Rams but so what, improvement's improvement)... I like how he lead the team and stepped up. I see him making nice strides next season. There should still be competition next season at his and Baas' position though.

he was a top 40 pick, possibly the best guard in his draft, and hes only in his 2nd season.

how is a future pro bowl out of reach?

sometimes it takes a few seasons before an OL is ready to step it up. no patience....

Anything is possible, but he and his coach have some work to do. Regardless I would still draft a guard early and another around the fifth. Just to push him and give us better depth

The 9ers tended to draft linemen in the later rounds (Harris Barton was the exception to the rule). What is different is that we had the best ever offensive line coach in the NFL. Now we are lucky if a 1st round pick pans out.

It's a long way from the Toilet Bowl to the Pro Bowl.

I could more easily see Rachal as a reserve on the bench in 2010, than in the Pro Bowl.

Not next year but he could later in his career. The guy has talent but it looks like he doesn't always use good technique and has mental lapses but if he can correct some of that like he did towards the end of the season i wouldn't doubt that he makes a pro bowl in the future.

However, i do like that he took the criticism to get better and hopefully he continues that to get even better.

Even if Rachal plays well enough to be Pro-Bowl caliber (which I highly doubt) he won't make it next year.

Pro-Bowl votes are trailing indicators for linemen, meaning that a lineman normally has to play at a high level for a couple of years before he gets votes and he'll normally get to Pro Bowls after his play has declined.

both our guards were bad if not awful at times....so no. How can second rounders be that bad.....we need a ol coach that can improve the great Guard talent we have or else our guards, running game and passing game will suffer

Along with most of the o-line he just plane looked soft at times. Overall run blocking was a joke this season, especially from the right side. They should improve considering the line is somewhat young and 3 of them are top 40 picks from there draft. Maybe its just bad coaching too.
