Are you talking about '98?
If indeed you are (which was Owen's first 1,000 yard season), Rice had a better season. 1998 was the season Jerry Rice returned to football following damage to his anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments and largely considered his last impact season with the 49ers.
I've included the statistics from that season below.
Owens - 67 Receptions, 1097 Yards, 14 Touchdowns
Rice - 82 Receptions, 1157 Yards, 9 Touchdowns
If you remember, Cris Carter was voted in that season despite below average numbers (largely due to then rookie Randy Moss).
Carter - 78 Receptions, 1011 Yards, 12 Touchdowns
How the hell does Vern lead TEs in TDs this year by a mile and do as well as everyone else in yards and get left off? This is bulls**t if he's right. He had a better year than both of those guys as far as actual production.
