Regardless of what happened today in Philly, I still don't think the Niners will be in the market for a new franchise QB in 2010, so aside from consistent QB play . . .
Offense
A new o-line coach
A young reliable bookend to Staley
A veteran interior o-lineman
A playmaking 3rd down nightmare, PR/KR type of talent at RB or WR
Defense
A playmaking safety
An Electric talent at OLB
Less urgent needs . . .
youth at CB

Our QB cannot be forced to look to his check down or throw it away every other play in games that matter.
The O-line coach should be canned today, and we should find a real RT and LG in the offseason.

EVERYTHING. There are so many glaring holes on this team its amazing. Quarterback first and foremost, OT, OG, OLB, CB, FS, SS, WR, Kick Returner, 3rd down back. We are not close to the elite teams in the league thats for sure.

I couldn't agree more with the above post. Upgrade our O-line big time !
Get a stud at OLB. Offer up a 2nd rounder to CAR for Peppers ! I just know that Smith has the tools to succeed. He just needs time to throw. When he goes out of the spread, and has time to throw, he makes the play. Get a new RT, and RG / LG. Get a good consistent pass rush and watch how good our DB's look. Be patient 49ers fans..we made some strides this year, ( Better WR play, Vernon, good pass rush ), and will make more this off season. We need to keep the same OC, and let Alex learn the SAME offense. How else can he succeed ??

This team needs to be disbanded. My life would be so much better if the niners weren't in it.
but seriously... QB, RT, RG, OLB, FS. Basically we need the same things that never get addressed.

1.)Dump Alex - He is a bum and a turnover machine.
2.)Start Nate Davis - At least see if he is worth getting a shot as a starter next year..
3.) Draft another QB - We need someone that can play at least average.

You know what ?? SHUT UP !! Quit your complaining and learn to grow with the team. Truth be told, with the way our O-line played today, and at certain times this year, nobody would have been able to succeed passing the ball. Smith needs time to throw. We've all seen what he can do with time. I've said it all year, upgrade the O-line and the pass rush and we're golden for 2010. We will finish 8-8 this year, which is still positive momentum from last year. We have some playmakers in Gore, Crabtree, Davis, and Morgan. With good protection for Smith, he will succeed. He's only 25 yrs. old, and hasn't played in almost 2 years, but he's putting up pretty decent numbers considering this is basically his 3rd season. Who do you all think is the QB of the future ? Davis ??? maybe, but who else ?? Bradford will NOT be around when we pick, and there's not much else out there. We need to give Alex time to throw..then judge him. I think he showed some fight in him by coming out in the 2nd half and leading us to 2 scoring drives. If Walker doesn't fumble, that's gonna lead to at least a FG, if not a TD. Totally different game if that happens. Now, I admit, 2 of the INT's he threw were Alex's fault. You know what ? McNabb made 2 really stupid INT's too. It happens. I think that real fans know when a team is making strides, and improving. This is a much more talented team than last year. We have tons of cap room for 2010 and 2 1st round picks. Our division sucks, and there's talk of ARI trading Boldin and Warner retiring. This bodes well for us. Hey, I'll admit, as a 20 + year 49ers fan, I'm a little bummed about the season, but we're rebuilding...it takes time. Be patient, or just simply be quiet ! So sick of the little punks on here bagging on everyone if we lose, but kissing their butts when we win. Take the wins with the losses, or pick a new team !! I think there's room on the Colt's bandwagon, hey, they're undefeated, go cheer for them !!
your right on here sir.

Well my friend, you ar enot the only long time 49er fan here and I commend you for your loyalty. But, I must disagree with you about Alex. He has been at this level long enough to not make the mistakes that he makes. He rolls to the right and always does nothing; even on that pass interference play we needed two yards the the first of which he could have ran for it but he throws tha ball. On that last sack, he ran right into the sack; but the bottom line is that he is simply not a playmaker which McNabb clearly is which is why he can throw interceptions and turn around and make plays to help his team win. Without better QB play, it will take years to build a team that makes it to the play-offs. Don't be mistaken, Sing was aware of this and was the reason why he wanted Vick so badly. If Vick was on this team, we would be play-off bound as he simply makes better decisons than Alex.
No doubt, this team needs OL help, but it would be down right stupid to spend any of the first round picks on that. Rookie OL picks in the first round rarely make the difference that this team needs. It needs good vets on the OL.
This team needs impact safeties and DB's with speed.
It also needs to determine how it can get Brooks on the field more often. He is a playmaker.
Soap is being payed entirely too much for what he brings to the table and unless he takes a cut in pay, there are other players to replace him with the same production but for a lot less.

We will not draft a QB in the first 3 rounds of the 2010 draft.
Wouldn't bet on that because we should! Smith sucks n we need to upgrade!
There is a QB in this year's draft class or FA that will play better than Smith. Get over it. The need to upgrade the line, get an explosive returner and another pass rusher. Smith is a middle of the pack QB. With the offensive skill positions already in place, a middle of the pack QB can win.

OMG shoot me now. I almost want to see Nate Davis play now so we can watch him get destroyed by a legit NFL defense (rams and lions don't actually count though I guess) and everyone will be quiet about him. Smith played like crap today but we got owned as a team and outclassed as a team and our oline is dogs**t and we can't cover fast recievers or get to the QB vs a good OLine. FML.

I agree with AJ. Oline, Oline and Oline in the draft and a New Oline Coach in my Christmas stocking.

And secondly, some big physical OL. The OL stinks.
So I guess we can all agree that we need Eric Berry with our first pick.
Berry and a huge tackle
