Buyer Beware: The Cardinals Game Was A Fluke

I see what he is saying , we need to be plying like we did on consistant basis not one game than f**k up on the rest ! it's like they just woke up the D !

You're right, it doesn't mean much about what's going to happen next week. But the Niners have played tough all year. I know there's a lot of b***hing on this site but the team's future looks pretty bright to me. We're a fluke play, a fumble, and a dropped pass in the end zone from being 8 - 5. We have two first round picks in what looks like a deep and talented draft and one of those picks will probably be in the top 8. So cheer up and enjoy the game. Things look pretty good even if next week isn't so good.

The only game we werent in was the Atlanta game, all the others we have won or lost close. Thats not a bad team. Thats a team with some questions, but a team that doesnt give up or in.

You are right. We are not a terrible team. But, we are also not a good team. We lost the Seahawks last week, and they are not a good team. We have a losing record, and a ton of issues, including the inability to run consistently from week to week, cover anyone on the secondary, etc.

Maybe sea got lucky last week and you should go post in their forum about how lucky they were

Does this mean that we were measured in several different ways against the Cards? If so, I think we passed the measurements.

I won't go so far as to say it was a fluke, because the Niners have shown flashes of this in other games. But I too am holding my optimism in check, and the main reason is this:

7 turnovers...only 24 points?!

A great defensive performance, no doubt. But the offense could only get 24 points out of 7 turnovers. That averages out to 1 field goal per turnover, with a field goal left over that could be earned by a regular offensive drive. I know, I know, they actually got some touchdowns and it wasn't all field goals. But that further shows my point that the offense couldn't capitalize on the turnovers consistently and couldn't generate their own drives without the turnovers. With 7 turnovers, a really dominant team would have had a lot more points.

Having said that, there were a lot of things to like about that win, especially if it is a sign of things to come. If the offense can continue to improve, and the defense can play at half that level consistently, then next year could be very fun indeed.

You forget that Alex threw 2 picks so the net turnover is only +5. And that last TO was when the game was already ours so there was no need to score.

24 pts off 4 turnovers is not bad.

We had a very unusual pass rush and a very unusual # of turnovers in that game compared with the rest of the year. It was a strange game in some ways. However the O LINE at times has blocked well and Frank Gore is capable of big games. Nobody should exect 7 turnovers a game. You are lucky to get 2 a game.

THIS GAME WAS NOT A FLUKE. Everybody knows the 49ers play the Cardinals extremely well. Those 7 turnovers WERE caused by the 49ers; nothing fluky about that man. All Arizona had to do was come out with more intensity than us and they did not and flat out got beat by the better club on that day. Record wise, we may not be as good as the Cardinals but it is a matter of consistency between the clubs. If we would bring it like that weeke in and week out we would probably only have 1 loss right now. Say what you want man but chill out and enjoy the game for what it was "A TOTAL BEAT DOWN" by the 49ers. Let's see if the guys have more of this left in the tank before the year closes.

I thought it was a great win, and not a fluke. I think people's reaction to one good game is fluke. What I don't understand is how folks say that the pass rush problem is solved after one good game. I seen one poster call Goldson a top 3 safety in the NFC after this game. another poster compared Brooks to LT. It's things like this that makes no sense. But these are some of the same people who said Gore should be gone after he fumbled vs Seattle. I think folks need to settle down and wait for consistent play out of a lot of these players. This team is good when we finally see some consistency out of players as whole. Goldson and Haralson have been missing in action for the majority of the season.

This post is what I hate. All this freakin pessimistic attitude and always trying to find something wrong with the team. Wack! The niners played good and they deserve credit when it's due. If you wanna say tats one wild wacky game... That can be said about hella games every week... But I'm sure those team's fan don't go around telling everybody hey we suck.

But we didn't beat them, we lost to all of them.

This is the most we have dominated a team all season, even with Cutler throwing 5 ints did we have to intercept him in the end zone at the end of the game to win. I agree this was, by definition, a fluke.

It doesn't mean the 49ers are bad, it just means they raised their game to a level they don't seem to be able to on a regular basis, or at least this season much at all. I think it does show their potential however.

How was this is a fluke? We shut down Peyton Manning, shut down the Cards best WR's, twice! allowed 0 points to a team and 3 points to another, forced 5 TO in a game, and this game we forced 7 TO...
