Its too bad he doesnt get there more often.
those are GREAT numbers..... Alex is really hard to figure out....he does do things that are wrong for a QB to do...like stare down WRs.....and other stuff that makes you understand why he turns the ball over....but then there are other times, usually against weaker opponents he makes perfect throws...
its ALL in his head......his problems are mental...
I don't know if that could get fixed.......hell my head hurts trying to figure him out... doesn't he know it was his time to shine today.... like SanDiego9er said earlier today...all Smith has to do is NOT turn the ball over....yet he does more than once..... it was the first time Sing got on Alex on the field...and it was unfortunately 4 games too late....if Sing got on his case those other times, instead of making excuses for him and throwing other players under the bus....then we don't know how Alex would have responded... Vernon responded well from last years barking....Alex could have as well.....Sing should have got on Alex's case a while ago and let him know turnovers are UNACCEPTABLE!
but he got on Alex on the very last one of the game....and it was too late.
This is a good point. Most of his problems are mental and he is a very tough guy to figure out. See even though you think it's unaccepable and have reasons that he sucks or isn't the guy, atleast you have reasons a person can have a logical discussion with, as opposed to the other guys going "OMGZ SMIT SUX WTF BBQ HAR!"
I don't think he's that hard to figure out. He's a presnap QB as he was in college. He finds the mismatch presnap and that's where he's going. That is why he can't make a simple cover two read post snap and stares his receiver. This shotgun spread is so he can see who's on who and the defensive personnel better. Philly disguised a lot if their defenses presnap. This is why he has difficulty under Center becaue he doesn't process what's happening in the Defense while he's dropping back.
Good point. That's how I play madden
. Can he get better at this? Do QBs get better at this in the NFL?
Reps.

"so you're saying there's a chance?"
I was really hoping he just wouldn't play dumb this game but what can you do. I'm pissed off because he did help us be in a position to have a chance to win the game. What this team Neds the most is something that doesn't require nothing this team needs to not change. Unfortunately, next year, we will still have a question at QB but by the end of the year, if nothing changes, at leastwe will know if that answer is yes or no.

Well for the most part I agree with you man. I agree, during the first half of the game I wanted to throw him out of a window lol. But during the 2nd half he started to play better and the OL fell apart. So I guess we just need to see things consistently stay the same for a year and we'll have our answer

Ahhh Smith..... Sometimes you look legit other times you look as if you will never get it..
Smith needs to work on putting the ball in places that gives his WR's a chance to run after the catch.
Smith HAS TO STOP STARING DOWN WR's.
Smith needs to work on his footwork from coming out under center..
If he can do these things I believe that he will become a very good NFL qb..

Smith doesn't stare down receivers. An announcer in week 8 or so said that but it doesn't make it true. 9er fans need to stop repeating what you hear on TV.

Seriously?? He's stared down WR's his entire career. This is nothing new. He locks on to one guy and telegraphs his throws. I'm not saying he does this all time, but he does it too often. How often do you see Smith minipulate a defense with his eyes??? Never.

Since you can't see his eyes on film you don't know. A QB doesn't turn his head from right to left. He moves his eyes.

So you're telling me you've seen plays were Smith uses his eyes to minipulate a defense?? I see Peyton Manning do it every week. He knows exactly where his WR's will be. You will see him looking one direction and at the last second whip his head around and fire the ball else where. Smith.... has not developed this part of his game yet..
I love the way people on this site react. Just pathetic. We win a game and we are going to playoffs. We lose in Philly and we are terrible. Show some smarts here folks. First, we have the Cardinals number, so that is why we look good against them. Now, if I had said at the beginning of the season that we would win against Philly in freezing conditions, what would you have said? You would have told me to shut the eff up.
The 49ers have tons of potential, but we are very young in key positions, including QB, TE, WR and OL. That is not conjecture, but fact. That said is Alex Smith ever going to be great? Likely no, and that is ok. We don’t need him to be great in the short term; we need him to be good. The long term is something different. Will the 49ers pass on Bradford if he is there with one of our first two picks? I know they won't draft Clausen. If healthy, Bradford will be the #1 QB prospect in the draft hands down. To get him at 10, 11 or 12 might be tough to pass up. Yet, if drafted, Sings head is suddenly on the chopping block. I mean if he cannot find one franchise QB out of Smith, Davis, or Bradford, he is in big trouble. Thus, is it likely the 49ers will draft a QB (and the added pressure) in the first round? No, not likely.
Smith is our short term answer and a big fat? Is our long-term solution. All you Smith and Davis haters better pray one of these guys develops, 'cause I doubt you are getting Bradford or Clausen for Christmas.

the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
What we got yesterday was what we've had all along with Alex Smith. He is Tim Couch with a great attitude and work ethic.

He was off tonight but a lot of plays seem to be miss communication.

I used to think we had a list of Smith excuses, but now I'm thinking we have an opportunity to write a book on the subject. I wish I was cut this many breaks at my work.
