Alex Smiths numbers after playing 8 games (counting Houston as a full game)

1721 Yards, around 60.5% Completion 15 TD's 9INT's

Project that over a 16 game season, 3441 Yards, 30TD's and 18INT's. Not half bad. And the only real "easy game" in those 8 games was Seattle
IMHO

Smith is same caliber QB as a Chris Redman

He will make some good throws and also some bad ones but won't be consistent throughout the game or take a team under his wing

Seattle?

Chris Redman is a decent back up no doubt, but come on. Seriously.

sorry...but Alex Smith isn't that great......I know alot of homers here will be offended with my comment.....

Matt Schuab, Matt Ryan > Alex Smith

we won tonight because of your DEFENSE + 7 turnovers + Gore

Matt Schaub = proven loser so far

Matt Ryan = a bit younger than smith, has played about the same. All in all, Smith knows how to throw td's. I can definitely say that. His last 4 games: 9 tds and 3 picks with a 2-2 record. Not shabby for quite possibly the comeback player of the year.

One of those picks was just a GREAT play by Dockett. You dont see that too often.
Oh and Alex Smith is 25. Chris Redman is 32. Who cares though? Smith is a 9er and we gotta root for the guy. Damn, this is who we have and he is the best qb on the team. As others have stated, with an off season and lots of reps, we will be division winners next year. My goal is for us to finish the season 8-8.

I agree an 8-8 season is very reasonable and with another good draft and this team being together a whole offseason I see the division title next year. Like I've been saying, we'll make our move in 2010.
My hope for him is that he will be able to thrive in formations that also play to Gore's strengths as well by the end of the year. The spread formation has it's place, but we need him to do well in the I formation or Double TE sets so the defense has to account for both our passing game and our running game on the same play.

Smith played the most of the game under center.

Alex is the future. "QB is only as good as supporting cast..." and that Alex shows that he can make plays when he needs to make them and he's the QB going fwd..

Good job Alex.

I hope Jed is not making those decisions, but with that said, I am glad the Niners are confident in him. I have been on the bandwagon for 5 years now.

Yeah. He didn't have his best game, but he made the plays when we needed them to score points. That 4th quarter drive where he converted two straight 3rd downs was great to see.

Exactly. It just goes to show that its not ALL about one player. How is it that Manning can throw 3 picks in a game and the Colts still win? TEAM effort. Tonight, the Niners showed that.

Smith played the most of the game under center.

And I don't think he played very well, especially in those snaps under center.

Yeah Smith didn't play all that well tonight. The offensive line was protecting all night. Win's a win. The real test is next week because Philly's defense is great.
