Wow. Dude wtf. So no one is allowed to disagree with Jerry Rice? Not saying I disagree. I just disagree w/throwing in Nate this season w/o an offensive overhaul.

I agree with Jerry actually not a bad idea to throw Nate Davis in we got nothing else to lose we ain't going to the playoffs. See if Davis shows promise to see if we need to draft a QB. It's called process of elimination I think. Steve Young I recalled said Smith is not that good as well. I believe them more than anyone else in this board cause they know what it takes to WIN and Alexandra does not.

Yeah...lets throw Nate in. I'm sure he will light it up and cure our problems on the line, and make our play calling better.

Again...for the millionth time...why bring in Nate when we can do better by tweaking our offensive philosophy with the talent we have. It makes ZERO sense to just insert a 5th round project QB who hasnt thrown a pass in the regular season or practice. ZERO.

I think your just narrowing in on this year bro I'm looking at it for next year and beyond. Alexandra and the Pie Thrower are not legitimate QB's in this league u just gotta face it. I'm not saying now but towards the end of the season like the last 2 or 3 games. We gotta see if we need to draft a QB because there is no doubt in my mind that the 49ers will.

lol Just the other week Steve said Alex is a late bloomer and a good player. It was after the Colts game. He said that on ESPN.

Serious? I recall him and Rich Gannon criticizing Smith for throwing the ball late, not anticipating not going through his progressions throw etc.

He knows more about WR than QB.

Jerry responded by saying that the 9ers need to keep someone there that will be part of their long term plans....

he said Shaun or Alex needs to be around to show be a vet presence....but and the end said Nate Davis is the future of the team.

edit- someone add to this or let me know if I got anything wrong.

Jerry a future HOF can spot talent miles away & he knows that Smith is garbage
he senses the potential of Nate Davis

i hope i see the youngster sooner then later

definitely agree with you guys. Last few games we should start developing Nate Davis and see what the kid has. I would say maybe 4-5 games for Nate. Unless Alex starts to let it up and win the remaining games but i doubt it.

Smith groupies dont like to see negative posting about their poster boy
but the truth of the matter is Smith sucks at best hes a career back up QB

If we dont let Nate Davis play this season (witch is pretty much over) we will probably never know how good he is or he isnt, knowing management
they probably will draft a QB high in the draft & Davis will get lost in depth chart
until his contracts expires
then gets a chance to probably shine & have a successful
career somewhere else.

WE NEED TO SEE WHAT DAVIS BRINGS TO THE TABLE!!!!

60 Dorsey and Picketts - Brady and Montana for that matter are the exception people need to get over it. Now what makes Davis interesting is the reason he dropped so far was not because of talent or play but a perceived learning disability - so maybe he could be different either way nothing to loose they at this point.

I wanted Alex back in hell i would rather have Alex in RIGHT NOW then Shaun Hill as he is a giant sack of nothing and spare me the we were winning with him - we won in spite of him people pretty big difference.

I never thought I would have to endure another Jim Hostler like season apparently the Yorks did not learn anything.

This crew is still Nolan's idiot group they should have been fired ALL of them but we know why that didn't happen - Singletary can't make up his mind (see prolonged horrible OC search last year that ended with Jimmy Raye).

I use to really wonder why Singletary never got a HC gig - it is pretty obvious everyone else could see he was the next Buddy Ryan - except he can't even FRICKING scheme with the DEF because he has never actually called the plays for a DEF...

The YORKIES have a very slow learning curve.

YES I strongly agree!
I really don't understand what Smith haters want. We tried Hill and unfortunately it didn't work out this year. Alex has shown he can play somewhat better, but it's not prowbowl caliber either. Throwing Nate out there has to be the dumbest move possible. What do you expect a 5th rounder with no experience, no o-line, questionable play calling, and suspect WRs to do? If he's the answer so be it, but put him in a position to succeed for crying out loud. Oh wait, I forgot I'm supposed to leave all logic at the door before coming into Niner Talk. My bad.

Exactly we are exactly as bad as the bucs and they have done it why not! They went through 3 Qb's already and we ain't going anywhere let him develop. I'm tired of hearing excuses we need performers.

Did you see that QB over at GB who whipped us today? Yeah, that's the reason why you let rookie QB's sit and give them the tools first. Oh, and Rogers was a 1st rounder to boot.

Well, you have a point there. But.... there is a bigggg but, the coaches, the o-line, the defense, the entire franchise and staff do not make the decisions on the field. Jimmy Raye can call any pass play he wants, but it's Smith who has to make the decision of where and how he throws the ball. Alex Smith is largely responsible for our losses... I'm not saying he's 100% fully responsible, but he's the QB. He's the decision maker. Obviously the decisions he's making are not working.

Nate Davis may be a rookie, he may be dyslexic, he'd have the same Oline and team to work with, but he MAY make different reads and ultimately different decisions with the ball. We've seen what Hill can do, we've seen what Alex Bust can do (we've seen it for too long in my opinion), let's see what the rookie can do.

I'm not saying Alex is free from responsibility, because he isn't. I only think he's our best option this year. After going through Alex's rookie year, I would think we've learned our lesson on what can happen to a rookie QB when you throw him out to die. You guys really want to risk Nate's development? He was drafted as a project QB, not as a savior, which is something I think many niner fans seem to forget. I think it's best we keep him as such unless you guys are up for another round of how curiosity killed the cat.
