Keep Raye next year?

I say keep him.
It was a mistake to hire him. It would be a mistake to keep him. Is consistancy important to Alex Smith? Sure seems to be. But if we keep Raye, our offense will just look consistantly bad - due to questionable playcalling.

Well - at least until we draft a FB capable of doing something when handed the ball on 2nd and 20!
Depends on the second half of the schedule and who is available.
Keep Raye. Hire Tollner as an adviser, while giving Mike Johnson some experience with the playcalling duties.
You don't keep a guy to avoid change. If we can get a goo one then we need to upgrade.
Dump Raye, promote Mike Johnson to OC, and keep the system intact.
Keep him, there are some series where he does call nice plays. Hopefully he can do that next year with a better OL.
Not buying into Mike Johnson as an OC. Not sure that he has the credentials or experience. After only one year under Raye. That might be another Hostler like disaster.
I'm 60/40 on keeping him. You don't want a scenario like we had last year were you end up with your 4th choice.

I'm all for going back to the WCO though. Let's see how the rest of the season plays out and if there's a significant upgrade at QB available.
Keep J-Raye
Get him a younger more aggressive assistant, and slowly phase him out, this will keep continuity. Raye is mediocre at best, but knows football well, he has value.
By bringing in four new offense coaches below him we set the table for his graceful retirement.

1) New QB coach
2) New Wide Receivers coach
3) New Offensive line coach
4) New assistant Offensive coordinator

We should aggressively target young assistant coaches from successful Collage programs, as well as some "quality control" coaches and other low level assistants from the pro ranks. A coaching staff is like a team and you need depth, the larger the staff the better.
Keep him, I don't think Sing will be able to do much better (remember 3 guys turned the OC job before Raye took it) and for consistancy stake.

We have to improve this O-Line, that is the bottom line.
Keep him. This is a year of evaluation; of talent, coaches and their ability to mold a game plan around the talent of the team. Whatever we accomplish this season is secondary to growing in talent, philosophy and evaluation of our current players.

Who is the core of this team? We think Gore, Staley, maybe Crabtree and Davis on Offense. On Defense, Willis and ?????

This is the crux of this season, who do we go forward with. Some we are stuck with. But really looking at this team we are not that talented. We have a QB who in the past has shown he has a plethora of skills but doesn't see the field. We have another QB who can see the field but has little talent other than managing. We have unproven wide receivers and an Oline that would have trouble blocking my grandma.

On Defense we have an ALL WORLD linebacker in Willis but the rest of the squad would be 2nd stringers on the great teams and like with us, starters on mediocre defenses. I will have to give this to Manusky, He has schemed well in devising a defensive game plan that fits the strengths of these players.

I am hoping that like Manusky, Raye in a followup year will turn things around on Offense. We have two first round picks, one of which I would hope is used to fill the RT spot.

Being patient is not something that fans can easily do, especially after the past 7 years yet that is what we need to be.

Go Niners.
given how much has changed in the offense, keep him. I think he's actually been doing pretty well.
