and the last drive - IMHO, the offense did it right all the way. Ultimately, the defense did not stop the Shaints on their final drive. Somehow, the Defense is not gunning for the ball, or trying hard to create turnovers this last two game. Somebody has to keep trying to jar the ball looose!

Today, I know the key to the playoffs - the Defense as a whole must create opportunities for the Offense by forcing turnovers. They have to pound the ball loose in the process of tacking the ball carrier!

I don't think you can blame the defense too much. That pass against Goldson was covered very good but you have a FS covering a 6'4" WR. We even sent 6 guys to Brees. It was tight coverage but a quick throw and Goldson just didn't get his feet right to turn around and possibly make the INT.
I'm still pissed that we had to use a challenge on the punt return where they said he touched the ball.
Josh Morgan was wide F$%^& open on the 2 point conversion. Just sayin'

why? we never used our second challenge and since we were correct we got to keep our time out.

That's what the challenges are there for.

I think it's a matter of Smith not trusting him completely.
That is a function of all the time Crabtree lost with his "neck injury."

No one doubts his talent. He just needs to spend the time to get on the same page with everyone else. When teammates are still telling him where to line up on plays, he is not going to have the trust of the QB. It will take time for him to change that.

I don't know why they don't start the game w/ a no huddle offense, similar to the last drive vs. Saints (or Minn in preseason)

Yeah i have to agree wit u on that one. It was funny because on the pregame show on ESPN, they were talkin about no 1 receivers, and Crabs name came up, because of missed practice, and still trying to tweek things that he missed has a great deal to do with it. And they said he should be ready to be our main go to guy in a few years. lol

Now i dont say in a few years, i just say the first year that he completes the ENTIRE pre-season will be his year, because he would of tweeked all the little things, and built that rapport with the QB, whether it be Smith or someone else.

Either way he's a playmaker, just not ready to be the main playmaker right now.

Yes he was. Thing is, I'm not 100% certain Smith could have gotten that pass past the coverage underneath. He's not the best at "airing" it out.

i honestly think Smith is scared to throw it down field. He did it a few times on Monday, but I still think he's scared. He'd rather throw it short to the RB. On a deep pass attempt to davis, crabtree was one on one with the DB. Yet smith still threw it to Davis who was double covered.

Sure 2 guys were TRYING to cover Davis, but he was streaking open and both defenders were beat. Are you really trying to say he should have thrown that ball to Crabs instead? Cmon man get f**king real.

the important thing is the Davis and Smith got the two points, therefore it is not important who he threw the ball to, it got done.

The next thing is that SF showed its potential in the Saints game. Now the next question is can SF display that potential against an inferior opponent or will they go up and down dependent upon their oponent - good play for good opponents and poor play for poor opponents? If we continue to develop we will be a good team, if not we will be one of those .500 teams - good occasionally but still find a way to lose.

Sing or Alex himself, should have slowed things down a bit to use as much clock as possible at the end. They gave the Saints too much time to drive back for that field goal. Even one of the announcers mentioned it as the 9'ers were driving and sure enough...... Shouldn't Sing have thought of that? Just asking.

Not necessarily. We needed a td and 2 point conversion. 2 point conversions are much more likely to fail than succeed. If we were down by 7, then you would want to run the clock, IMO. But not 8,a td plus a two point conversion is a tough thing to accomplish....they are essentially what amounts to scoring 2 TD's in a row, except that you only get one down and 2 points instead of 7 points for the second one. Singletary could have chosen to run more time off the clock on the drive and stake the entire game on getting the two point. But if you miss the two point you are done, game over.

IMHO, it was the correct thing to do it the way it was done...you are hedging your bets, leaving as many options open to score as you can. If you miss the 2 point (we almost did, it had to be reviewed) you at least can get one last chance to get the ball back with a chance to do something with it by kicking the onside kick. Plus, the defense had played well enough to believe the chances of the Saints getting into scoring range were not overwhelmingly great. So you go for the two and hedge your bets by leaving some time on the clock in case you don't make it. If you make it that is great swell...you are now tied and your defense is playing well enough to give you a more than decent shot at not letting the Saints score so you can go to OT, or even, maybe,(with a very large bit of luck) win it in regulation.

Blame the Coach
I would say "oh well, live and learn" but the niners did the same thing in Minnesota last year.
I like how he just ignores the possibility of failing the 2 pt conversion and not having enough time left to recover an onside kick and kick a fg.

same team, many different players last year.

Like I initially mentioned before the start of the season...

The coaches will make or break the team this year.
