At the start of this season the consensus was that the strength of our D was the LB's...but as of late the pass rushing of this D appears to be coming from the DLine. Maybe it's time to give up on pass rushing with our LB's and just move back to the 4-3 so we can have more of our better rushers in the game at one time?
In a 4-3, the defensive linemen are generally smaller - more athletic and quick. Look at Dwight Freeney...now look at Isaac Sopoaga and Kentwan Balmer? See a difference? Look at a guy like Bryant Young...and look at Franklin. See a difference? We spent a couple of years trying to play a 3-4 without having the right people for it. Now we finally have people that fit the system and playing well, and you want to try to fit 3-4 people into a 4-3?? Nolan...is that you playing some kind of a joke??
Justin Smith would do well in a 4-3, and Ray McDonald would at tackle. Balmer would have, but he's bulked up a lot to play in the 3-4. That's about it.
Nice post. And yes, now that the 3-4 is functioning ok, seems like a good time to tear it down and start again.
