In a 4-3, the defensive linemen are generally smaller - more athletic and quick. Look at Dwight Freeney...now look at Isaac Sopoaga and Kentwan Balmer? See a difference? Look at a guy like Bryant Young...and look at Franklin. See a difference? We spent a couple of years trying to play a 3-4 without having the right people for it. Now we finally have people that fit the system and playing well, and you want to try to fit 3-4 people into a 4-3?? Nolan...is that you playing some kind of a joke??

Justin Smith would do well in a 4-3, and Ray McDonald would at tackle. Balmer would have, but he's bulked up a lot to play in the 3-4. That's about it.

Nice post. And yes, now that the 3-4 is functioning ok, seems like a good time to tear it down and start again.

I don't think we need to go that far but I think drafting a big passrushing LB would improve our pass D dramatically.

Great idea, lets change 4-3.

Shut the F#$K up. Defense is not the problem, when you hold Peyton Manning (Future Hall of famer) out the End zone for the entire game; Defense is not your problem.

Agreed. I also noticed that the Defense seems to play A LOT better when the offense is rolling. Once that defense gets pumped up they are almost unstoppable.
NO
This is such a stupid thread. First thing first we are number one against the run. The offense is the problem on this team not the defense. This defense would be on the top 5 if our secondary are not banged up.
I think we need to close this thread now. It's served its purpose already.

Can we change the offense to a 4-3?
it looks like theres a lot of indecision in the zone about this topic and i think it warrants further discussion

Franklin couldn't hold Bryant Young's jock. Also Franklin plays NT and Young played LDE when they went to a 3-4.

Everyones all happy that we held Manning out of the endzone but we did give up 347 passing yds. How about when the Texans and Falcons rolled up our team? No pressure and lots of mental errors in the first half of each game. We had one game we did ok in Indy and everyone thinks we're fixed. Let's see us do well against the Titans and Bears before we say we're ok.

O-line and pass rusher in the off season.
