(As you mentioned in your post above)
If Smith were running the Offense the same exact way? Hell yeah I would have a problem.
The problem I am having is the EXCESSIVE 3 and outs that we see the 1st three Qtrs. The Rams game is an anomoly since OBVIOUSLY they are at the bottom of the heap. They are right where we were 3-5 years ago talent-wise and their club is in such a disarray that Rush Limbaugh is looking at buying(which isn't a bad thing imho, but that's for an entirely different conversation) their franchise.
People are blaming Raye for the lack of creative play calling.
I say that the root of the play calling is the QB. We DON'T have a guy running the Offense that can take the pressure off the run game with creative play calling. Having a guy that has the arm to go deep without fluttering passes consistently would even take the pressure off the Line.
Now if a HEALTHY Smith were doing these same things? Hell yeah I would be having a problem. Even with a 5th OC in 5 years. Especially since Raye has the same base Offense using the numbers system that BOTH Norv AND Martz ran. If Smith couldn't get it by now then he SHOULD be gone.
That said, this is about Hill and nobody else. He's not going to get better. He is what he is and the Defense wil continue to carry him against the teams that we matchup with. The teams we don't will be his TRUE test. And at this point I'm not convinced that he can pull out wins in that situation.
*Edit* This is in response to the TD comment. Given the WR corps that we had that year, you damn skippy I was cheerin. The WR corps compared to this WR corps? Well let's just say I've seen HS Receivers play with more enthusiasm and attention to route detail than that one. It's sad when your best Receiver over Smith's short stint couldn't afford a belt to keep his pants up.
