Sure, the line isnt the best in the league, but if you dont have the mechanics to take a snap from under center, you shouldnt have been drafted number one overall-see Alex Smith. The QBs awareness or lack thereof, will add or subtract to the strength of the line, there is no line in the NFL that makes every single block on every single play, it is the QBs job to "help" the O-line by reading the D/blitz and making the proper adjustments. We are not stuck with the Shotgun because of our O-line, it is because of Smiths inability to take snaps under center.

No someone posted stats his stats are acually better under center and most of the time h is under center he gets like 2 seconds to throw and his qb awarness has improved a lot our sacks wen down a lot from when Shaun hill was qb and Shaun has staley is it really hard to give credit where it's due?
Alex Smith couldn't do what Nate Davis is doing here during Smith's rookie year.

Back when we were giving Alex all the benefit of the doubt in the universe.

Alex Smith looked utterly incompetent. Davis here shows flashes of poise, pocket awareness, and the ability to "throw receivers open."

Whether this translates to a top flight QB in the future remains to be seen, but if he even remotely follows Alex Smith's developmental path, we have a good QB on our hands here.

Smith 40
Davis 11

that is all

bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaha
LOl, i see someone just changed the title, lol.

Honestly tho, if he is the QB of the future i dont want to see him till the season 2011.

2010 is for Smith to show what he has, and to be honest i think Davis would do almost as good as Sanchez if put in a game right now.

What gets me is that for lack of a better word, the coaches are the ones deciding to take their time with him. Soo many talk soo much of this production, or that production, but that main problem is the learning disability.

Someone wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle that, in his last years in college they gave Davis very few plays, and for the most part let him execute the offense on feel. In my opinion I think this is what Manning does best.

Davis and Manning are no where near comparable, however, it's a valid argument if he'll be able to do the same in todays NFL, which is nothing like college.

So as a result of this being said, in order for him to be effective I feel that he needs just what smith is getting now, and then even more help. Continuity as the appointed starter so that he can just focus on starting.

I mean i just dont see how can soo many just want to put him to the forefront. Even sorry ass teams usually let a rookie sit for as long as they can until they have no choice. In this case we have all the cards, so this is gonna be alex's year, and if he sucks, then we can groom davis to start in 2011.

But really he hasnt even been listed as a no 2 QB yet, so.
honestly you guys make me sick on here with your comments. seriously nate davis will never be the 49ers fulltime starting QB! Fact! Sure he has good arm strength, but that's about it. he can't fully breakdown a defense when at the line. oh i don't want to get into depth about it but stop the nonsense!

If you said it wouldn't happen it is almost gauranteed to happen.

Fact? Really? Based on what? And your assertion that he can't break down defenses is based on what? In fact, many scouting reports say he does a good job reading defenses and going through his progressions. Not all of them share that opinion, and some scouting reports worry about his height and ability to read defenses in play; and that's concern about being able to see over the line, not really about being able to read the defense. But many reports had good things to say about his pre-snap reads. So your "factual" assurances are anything but factual. They are conjecture based on very little, if any, facts. You want some facts?

Fact: Nate Davis is a quarterback
Fact: Nate Davis has a four year contract with the 49ers
Fact: Nate Davis is currently still on the roster with the 49ers
Fact: Comments from the 49ers staff regarding Nate Davis’ progression have been positive.

So while nobody knows if he will ever be the full time staring QB for the 49ers, the fact is, it is a possibility which means you are simply spouting nonsense.

so yeah, stop the nonsense!

You're psychic!? I'm sold man! I'll make sure I get my Niners info from you, from now on.

Does anybody else see the irony of his first sentence, compared with the rest of his post?

I think the point is, someone with dyslexia is going to perform poorly on a written test. Even a very intelligent person with dyslexia is going to struggle on a written test, especially a timed test. That's part of the problem with dyslexia. So IMO, the test is not a valid gauge of his intelligence.

Personally, I don't know if he is intelligent or not. I know from watching him play in college, he has football intelligence. I know from seeing how he lead the (Ball State) team, and reading about many off the field things he did, even as a college student, that he has social intelligence. I know that one of the main reasons he chose Ball State is because they have a program designed to assist students with learning disabilities, which shows intelligence in planning and forethought. I don't know whether or not he can solve calculus problems, or algebra problems for that matter.

But I do know that a timed written test is not going to accurately tell you anything about what an individual with a learning disability like his knows or does not know. And comments implying that he is stupid based on those test results are insensitive, asinine, and, frankly, stupid.
