He will be rooting for the Cardinal defensive backs. He is hoping that the 49er WR all break a leg and the 49ers get desperate and give him whatever he wants.
Add Crabtree's "advisors" to that as well.

He'll at least be rooting for the offense to struggle.

I think he'll be rooting for the Cardinals. Not only that, but he would probably like to see Fitzgerald and Boldin (if he plays) have monstrous games and show us the importance of a good WR.

I actually think GM Scot McCloughan will be fired regardless of the outcome.
Saying a GM should get fired because a player is holding out is ridiculous. No matter what you do, you don't know whats going on in the players head. Its just like going to a job interview, your going to tell the person everything they want to hear to make you look good.
Not because of the holdout.
- The inability to acquire and establish a starting caliber QB in 5 years.
- The inability to acquire legit starting O-line talent in 5 years. Baas and Snyder are still question marks, while they got Heitmann from the previous front office. And WTF was it about starting Rachal at RT?
- The inability to acquire or develop legit #1 or #2 WRs for the long-term. Curtis Conways, Johnnie Mortons, and now Issac Bruce (at least a legit one). Crabtree isn't for sure, but he was a no-brainer pick.
- The inability to utilize Vernon Davis effective in the early part of his career. Blame goes on coaching staff, but McCloughan should put more pressure on the staff to play to the strengths of the team.
- The inability to find a legit NT for the 3-4 defense. Sopoaga and Franklin are both backup type players. Sopoaga may even fit better as an NT in the 4-3 defense.
- The inability to find above-average pass rushers in free agency or the draft. Haralson is okay, but there's no one else. Lawson is a question mark, and we kept bringing in repeats like Roderick Green to fill the void. Now we signed Harris, and moved Brooks from ILB to OLB.
- The inability to address the FS position promptly. Roman started way too long when we should have been more proactive in addressing it. Reggie Smith should have immediately been put at FS to compete for the starting spot, and not at CB.
Scot McCloughan factors value in players on if they can play multiple positions instead of if they can play one position at a high level. It's why we suck balls.

The season starts tomorrow, and he isn't signed, hell with him! I would start reducing the amount of money offered to him. I don't want him on the team anymore, let him sit out and get drafted in the 2nd round next year.

I really can't believe we wasted a 10th pick. This has happened what, about twice in NFL history for a first rounder? How great that we now seem likely to go on such an exclusive list. I don't care who's fault this is (Crabtree or Parker), we are simply not good enough to have these type of things happen.
I've always thought we should probably settle between 8th and 9th pick money. Screw the other franchises that are looking to us to hold firm on the slotting system. None of those teams are going to bench their top picks when we play them to reward us for sticking to the slotting system. No one is going to offer us extra draft picks for holding firm. In fact, they're more likely to stack the box on Gore when we play them because they know we can't pass. Thus, screw the other teams if we're only talking about the difference between an 8th pick and 10th pick contract. If Crabs will meet us there I say we settle there.

I'm not trying to defend Scotty boy, but remember that Nolan hired Scot. Nolan had full control over the team, including the draft. It wasn't until last year Scotty had official athurity over Nolan. Im pretty sure all those years Scotty would suggest guys in the draft only not to have them play was frustrating for him. Thats why this year I think Scotty has decided to live and die with the guys he has drafted the last few years. If its a success, he's king, if its a fail he's in the unemployment line.

I agree 100 percent. The problem is we needed to make this offer from the get go. If we give in now it looks like we caved and it could really effect us in the future. The sad part is we are taking this great stand on principle and it wont even be an issue after next year as it looks like they will implement a slotting system.....

I'm confident that if Crabtree sits out this season, that karma will strike him at some point. Whether he shreds his Achilles tendon or gets his leg crushed under a golf cart, things have a way of working out in the end. That said, I still hope he signs before things reach that point but maybe things were meant to be this way.

While all valid points, a lot of it is unrealistic, as far as the blame to the GM. How many HC's in the NFL do you think get field strategy from their GM's? Do you think guys like Walsh, Belichick, and Cowher could give a ish about what their GM's want done on the field?

There was virtually no talent in SF when Scott showed up. Half the board still wants Alex to have a chance so the claim of not finding a QB in five years is not completely scott's failure. I agree that soap is not the answer at NT and franklin should have been a back up the last couple of years. But short of using a 1st round pick on a NT type what else could scott have done? Overall the niners can compete again. When Scott first arrived there was no chance of winning games against average teams.
There is a night and day difference between this year's team and what Scott had when he first arrived. Scott had to upgrade every position on the field when he got here.
In short the niners could have done a lot worse than Scott M.
