This is a telling comment, Sing gives a vote of confidence, somebody else fires Raye!
This tells the players Sing is no longer the man, mutiny is not far behind.

Not according this

"49ers coach Mike Singletary and Raye have not seen eye-to-eye about the reasons for the team's struggling offense," La Canfora reports.

i joked about the same thing last night, also, kinda...
this is a good article on MJ from Maiocco

link

Quote:
He visited Ohio State, where he spent time with coach Jim Tressel and quarterbacks coach Joe Daniels, his former mentor at Akron. He also met with Ron Zook’s staff at Illinois. Johnson sees Illinois’ spread offense as the most applicable to the NFL game because of the Illini’s ability to run the ball successfully.

I think we will go back to the spread

My guess is that the basic playbook will not change....there is no realistic way to change it mid-shift like this.

However, the play selection will change, for better or for worse remains to be seen.

I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with the playbook....it was just the lack of creativity in the calls, predictability, and poor rhythm.

I don't know anything about Mike Johnson. So there's no promise about anything getting better.

At the end of the day, it change for the sake of change because they entire fanbase was demanding Raye's head on a platter, and Singletary was probably given an ultimatum to get rid of Raye.

I dont think its possible for the play calling to get any worse. Yes, Raye was enforcing sings run first mentality, but the variety in our run selection was non existent
What I want is simple: An OC that can use and create a gameplan based around the talent that he has instead of forcing a gameplan.

An OC that can exploit the other teams weakness as well as exploit whatever defensive they will use against you, ala the 8-9 man front everyone uses against us.

You know, the basics.

Things can change quickly if your job is on the line
Maybe he will at least identify mismatches and use them to the 49ers advantage!
Historically, changing coaches mid-season never works out. Hopefully Johnson brings a fresh playcalling. I am guessing the system remains unchanged, but the play selection will change dramatically..

For example,
less HB dives
no more FB dives
stretch the field more
use the "creative" section of the playbook that Jimmy probably lost in the coaches booth...

that doesnt mean that they didnt see eye to eye though it just means that he got rid of someone so he could save his ass

Most of us have been saying this since last year...
I suspect this is just a start. If this team continues to struggle -- Dingleberry will find his head on a stick next.

And with Smith at QB -- the team will continue to struggle.

There's only one true way to really shake things up. And I wonder if Johnson has the b@lls to do it. That's either promote our third stringer to QB or the guy sitting on the practice squad.

Sorry -- but David Carr is just plain shell-shocked after a career-ruining stint in Houston. I'll root on for my Fresno State Bulldogs till the day I die -- but I know that Carr is just another reincarnation of Alexcuse Smith.
Isn't mike Johnson a fan of the spread?
