I read an article a while back that said the California lottery was required to spend 1/3 of its earnings on education, that 1/3 for the year given was 1.2 Billion. But that 1.2 billion was only something like 1.5% of the state education budget overall.

Just a drop in the bucket.

good insight. retarded how the new members have the right to even do so

I'm pretty sure the COUNTY of SC and the CITY of SC are two different things. Not sure how it all works tho.

Ya...and to be fair, the lotto was supposed to put MORE oney into public schools. Instead, the state has simply had the lotto replace money they pulled for other things. It hasn't really helped schools at all.

The schools DO need more money. By even talking about it we are accepting the premise of the guys argument.

The problem is that it doesn't freakin' matter.

The 49ers in effect lent the City 30 Million Dollars and the County said, "ya know what? Screw you. I ain't paying you back".

It's wrong. Plain and simple.

Right, in the end it's an unethical move by the county guys who came into control of this funding allocation and it doesn't matter where the money is better spent because it was already allocated.

I think the biggest issue, though, is that voters did not approve an additional 30 million to give to the county's schools. They approved it for the stadium. The county can try and justify it with any "good spending" that they want, but that isn't what the voters decided - the people that they supposedly represent.

Exactly.

The "spending money on school districts" is completely bogus. This has nothing to do with the schools. It was just an argument to make his position sympathetic.

It's like you lent somebody $3000 expecting to get paid back and then they guy said "You don't need it anyway, so I'm not going to pay you back. I'm buying my kid a computer instead". Then they made you sound rediculous for wanting your money back to buy a big screen TV when his kid CLEARLY needs a computer.

It doesn't freakin matter what the "best" allocation of that money is. Assumptions and decisions were made under the expectation and promise that the money would be paid back.

This isn't freakin' Robin Hood. NIners will get their money in court.

No, the money needs to be tied to the students. We spend plenty on education in order to give each student a quality education. The problem is the distribution of those funds, with a bloated executive level getting six-figure salaries while schools and the students benefit little. It's a complete mess, one that just continuing to throw money at has done little to solve.

You are probably right. My point tho was that the guy accomplished his aim by making this a conversation about education instead of a conversation stealing money voted on and approved to go to a party he didn't like.

He has succeeded in changing the conversation to bypass the fact that it's completely wrong to simply take money promised for the stadium when decisions have been made under the assumption that the money would be repaid.

Simply saying "Lets get real, the stadium will get built anyway" is total BS. Thats true, but it has nothing to do with the argument. Its like saying "lets get real, if I kicked you in the shins it wouldn't kill you". True, but doesn't make it right.
This is why people hate government. Bunch of slimy, greedy thieves.

Or if you're a 49ers fan and own a home in Santa Clara county just don't pay your property taxes and see what happens.

Thats a good example.

I think I'll just decide "screw em, I'm not paying my Property Tax this year. I'm spending it on my sons private school instead".

Think that'll fly?

I'm thinking no.
