This seems like an overpayment. Especially when you also have to give him 20+ per season. Chiefs fans are very happy about this trade and didn't expect to get this much for him.

Chiefs always seem to get over on teams on these trades

This is a good point.

Dolphins traded damn near the same amount of capital for Tyreek Hill and at the time, the majority of the internet thought the Dolphins won the trade (there is often an immediate bias towards whichever team gets the star). In hindsight, Chiefs obviously won the trade by a mile.

Not saying the Chiefs will win this trade too (if you believe in trade "winners" and "losers") but there is a precedent here.

Yes, remains to be seen, but off top of my head there was Hill, Sneed and Ford

That's a team that wants to win a Super Bowl

Lynch got taken to the woodshed with the ford trade

All in for 2026….why the hell not. I wish the 49ers would try going all in. 🤣

We did with trey

Don't consider drafting a rookie QB who started less than 20 games versus subpar competition going all in. Referring more to free agency and acquiring actual proven players, not complete longshots. Granted hindsight is always 20/20.

100% lessons learned. I liked the Trey trade, but obviously it bombed. Now look at Purdy. In the end, give me guys who show production in college. I would argue 99 out of 100 times they always do better than the flashy athlete with less production.

You might consider the player a failure, but the act of trading up that high is going all in but I do get what you're saying and don't disagree with how we've generally done it.

The problem, around the league in history, is going all in usually doesn't work. Now it did in 1994! Let's find our deion!

We need to move on from this mistake. Five QBs were taken in the first 12 picks that year and only Lawrence has had any real success. Unfortunately the Niners felt they needed to find a replacement for JG and they had a shot to move up and take a guy that was considered to be a top 3 pick. He didn't pan out but neither did Justin Fields who played at Ohio State and was a 5 star recruit. Same for Zack Wilson who played at BYU.
D.J. Moore, recently rumored to be a trade interest of our Niners, is now a Buffalo Bill

Its not always that simple. Go look at career leaders in all the various categories like passing, rushing, receiving and its littered with players who never made it. Purdy's numbers in college weren't that great either.

Thank god we didn't trade for him

This 1000%

We would be #1 in all if we weren't the bridesmaid.

They did it for multiple years and ownership got uncomfortable with it.

I know, ultimately it's a crapshoot, but it is also what system they ran etc. The guy who only played pure college option ball doesn't compare to Purdy's body of work as it pertains to the NFL, but he probably dominates many college stats. I think you know what I mean lol I still think if Lance never got hurt for two years in a row Kyle's plan would probably have made him into a competent QB.

That probably isn't something that you can do every year, some years you have to take a cap management approach otherwise you end up in cap hell. I do think that they should make a serious push this year. A good chunk of the teams stars/pillars (George, Christian, Trent) probably down to their last 2-3 years of productive football, and the team hasn't drafted well enough to have the next wave of stars ready to go so time is of the essence.
