Shedeur Sanders Anyone ?

Just in passing, had the Niners drafted a qb - regardless of their name - in the 5th round and due to injuries had to play him in their first year, I would consider it most unfair for fans to get stuck into him after his first game. Not every draft pick is a Brock Purdy. So maybe be a little more patient. I don't know if he is a quality NFL qb in the making but it is likely to take a year or two to really bring it out.

And, as an aside, the guy would have been better with us!

In a general sense the first part of your post is reasonable. Terique Owen's is a perfect example of how most people treat a player with a great last name. No one gives extra scrutiny to Shedeur's brother. No one cares. Shedeur wouldn't be much different if he didn't bring a circus to town.

Shedeur's self-identification as "legendary", telling good teams to pound sand in the draft, and the fact that calling him a developmental prospect has been considered a hate crime are the reasons for the reaction. Maybe it isn't fair as Shedeur can't control his dad, media personalities and forum randos. Maybe it isn't fair that he hadn't gotten any first team reps. Maybe it isn't fair that his offensive line isn't very good. Maybe it isn't fair that he is coached by someone who doesn't seem to think he is very good.

He has some obstacles like anyone else, but the guy has no problem selling his personal hype, and when you sell into that, you are buying the accompanying scrutiny. Shedeur the late round developmental prospect is worth $1.50 but doesn't get much scrutiny.

Lastly, based on his skill set and weaknesses, I doubt he would even make the practice squad in SF. About the only reason anyone would even consider if he would do better with the 49ers is because of his last name. A John Doe with his skill set would have a thread with around zero posts after the draft.

I'm not putting much stock in his first game or even his first year but his fanboy on this forum went on and on about how much better he was then the other guy and all the other QBs on that Browns roster and how much of a insult it was for him to not be the #1 guy.

But like i said earlier, i thought the mean racist NFL was keeping him down and i was shocked to hear he even got playing time. Not sure how they let that happen!!! Now the goal posts have moved to he didn't get enough 1st team practice reps.

Good points. All of them. However, I keep on remembering the first time I saw Joe Montana play for the 49ers. He was as unheralded as they come. A 3rd round pick. Not a sure thing. Yet, the first time I saw him, I just knew. This feeling was cemented during a 1980 game against the Saints. Down 35-7 at halftime in what would be a lost season with a 6-10 finish, Montana led that team back. Again and again and again and again. I had never witnessed anything like it before.

I got the same vibes when I first watched Brock Purdy. There was just something about him. While most QB's fire bullets, Purdy throws the prettiest damn balls I've ever seen. That loft. That touch. It's just something you do not see out of many QB's. But I saw it with Montana. I see it today with Purdy.

As far as Sanders is concerned, I haven't watched him yet. He could be "the guy." Time will tell.
He looks like a guy that will bounce around the league as a backup.

The Canadian football league.
Is this true - I heard on the 'odd couple' that a number of teams including the ravens and eagles called Shedeur on draft day before he went in the 5th asking if he'd like to play for them and he said no?

If I recall right , then Ravens basically said he has no shot at starting and Shadeur respectfully declined the opportunity to be only a back up

Deion confirmed that both the Ravens and Eagles called Shedeur and that Shedeur turned them down because he didn't want to be a backup for ten years.

As billbird commented a few days ago, we will get our first good look at him soon. Is he a big fish? or just a big fish in the little Cleveland pond?

This is a very fair take, probably the fairest I've seen. The only thing I would say is that I'm not sure if it would take a year or two, simply because of how criminally mismanaged this 1st round talent has been handled. You are totally correct, Shedeur would have been better with us (no, I'm not saying that I we should have, nor was I hoping that we draft Shedeur, because we have a franchise QB whom I'm totally confident in). You are correct, not every pick is a Purdy. But correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Brock get SOME reps with the one's? How else would Shanny be able to sell to York that the 7th rounder was better than the 1st rounder if they didn't see how he looked with the one's? Granted, the situation was different. But Brock at least got enough reps for Shanny & Co. to be convinced.

Say whatever you will about Shanny, but he places at lot of weight on practice. He's proven he won't play draft position politics if you don't show in practice. I can't say this about Stafanski. I have followed this Shedeur saga with the Browns closely since he was drafted. From the 1st day in camp local media and attending fans ALL confirmed that Shedeur was the best looking QB in cam and practice, even with very little reps (I've already posted the receipts on that).

On day one Stafanski said that there would be a "4 way QB competition". Those were his words. But from the very start the local media and attending fans saw that this was clearly not the case. Dillan looked so bad the attending fans were calling for Shedeur. What you seen from Dillan in the games is what they saw in camp and practice – ball in the dirt, INT's, sacks, and mis-throws. This was not reported with the few reps Shedeur got. There was a 4 play series in camp were Shedeur had with the 2nd team offence going against the 1st team D and he went 4 for 4, but it got little notice.

Look, I've watched this kid's every play in Jackson State and in Colorado. I'm a fan of his because I am a big fan of his father who helped my beloved 49ers win our 5th SB. So yes, I want to see him succeed . . . . just not against us. But more importantly, I don't like how he's been handled, especially considering what I've been told by several former NFL players (yes, I know several) who told me that they've seen many players be handled in this fashion when the owners and/or the coaches don't like a player personally, and (I'm only repeating what I was told) they've only pulled these kind of things against Black players. The difference is that they didn't have the name "Sanders" on the back of their jersey's, so those players go forever unknown into obscurity were the NFL can remain safe from public scrutiny.

But not this time. It seems that god is smiling on this young man. And if he balls out against the Raiders, which I think he will with a full week of practice were the lineman can at least know his cadence, there's gonna be a lot of questions being asked, and rightfully so, about the handling of Shedeur Sanders.

There's always two sides to a story. That sounds reasonable. He obviously thought a team would draft him to be their starter. I caught the tail-end of the 'odd couple' broadcast. They were yappin away in hindsight it seems.

f**k Shedur and his antics he ain't a 9er thank god . He ain't nothing but a cry baby!!!
2nd game let's see what he's got with all the reps at QB1
If they cut him, I would not be against bringing him so that Kyle can continue his side hustle of resurrecting another castoff QB.

He causes some fans to be obnoxiously loud about how he needs to be the starter though
