Cap doesn't matter. It's about cash savings.
Also he sucked against the run and despite the modest sack numbers he did not consistently impact the passer in a meaningful way.

Again, anyone thinking the 49ers would run it back with the #29 run defense (#26 overall) was fooling themselves. SF will look for bigger bodies on the edge than the 240-pound Leonard Floyd.

Was Floyd ment to be a full time starter or a specialist?

It doesn't matter.
Teams can still run on passing downs and Floyd was brutal vs the run. Like one of the worst linemen out of 220 or so qualified linemen.

Beal is a below replacement level edge. They have no one besides Bosa, Gross-Matos who himself may be released, and Sam O. Yikes. And its not like the edge class is spectacular.
