That checks both boxes for the NFL - less touchbacks because the ball is kicked from the 30 (not the 35), and collisions aren't as hard since the teams are five yards apart. I think this format would also introduce OLmen as being a significant part of the return team since they don't have to run as much and block in open space.

I think it will allow for too many big plays this way. Based on that we would probably shatter NFL records for most TDs in a season.

Agreed. Hester would have scored on every kick off in this formation.

Chance of starting at the opponents 45??? I think that's a bit extreme.

JFC just leave the game alone, Goodell has already done enough damage.

Kickoffs need a change though, at this state they are pointless.

The NFL is working on a kickoff proposal that would involve teams kicking off from the opponent's 40-yard line, with the goal of increasing returns.

Here's some of what it involves, per @AlbertBreer:
- No players except the kicker and returner can move until the ball is touched.
- If the ball doesn't cross the 20-yard line in the air, it's treated as out of bounds and the receiving team gets possession at their own 40-yard line.
- If the kicker kicks the ball into the end zone on the fly, a touchback results in the ball being placed at the 35-yard line, as opposed to the previous rule of the 25-yard line.
The essence of the idea is to increase returns while also reducing space and speed in the play, addressing a major issue that has led to more injuries.

Economically speaking, the returner might become one of the higher paid players in the game.

Just like they normally do but you have to notify the refs first. No more surprise onside kicks
