f**k sam darnold and f**k Shanahan if he goes with Darnold as QB2 w his 55 games of suck on his resume. It's insane and just as bad as his man crush on kirk f**king cousins.

cool. you gonna leave if it happens?

So by his logic, Trey Lance must be fools gold too. Oh wait, were we suppose to buy in his 4th quarter performance or something??

Trey Lance has 3 freaking starts dude. Darnold's scrub self has FIFTY FIVE starts. How you cannot comprehend the difference is unreal - but reading many of your posts I can understand.

No one has any idea if Trey is fools gold or not. He essentially has two starts so we aren't going to know for a long time since Brock is QB1 currently.

We aren't going to know before the contract runs out, so we might as well name the better player right now as QB2 and not worry about their potential nor how good they will be 5 years from now. IMO Darnold is the better QB right now.

Actually in a lot of people's opinions Darnold is the better QB.

As for the poster above you, he needs to add a little context in Darnolds 55 career starts.
Waiting for someone to say, "game manager" lol

He's got more arm talent than "game manager" and also commits too many TOs.

Darnold ain't better than Trey and Trey has barely played his whole life and he flashes tantalizing talent with his throws when he is in a rhythm like he got into the other night throwing darts that even Brock couldnt dream of throwing. The downside plays are expected from a dude with 3 f**king starts in his career and with more playing time those negative plays subside w experience and the top 3 pick talent upside remains. Unless Trey ultimately busts and the negative plays continue like explains Darnold's career. Trey is unknown so you don't turn that down for already known busts.

Unless you're Sam Darnold and your play continues to suck and disappoint every fan of the teams he was on for 55 starts.

Says a lot about Darnold who has played qb his whole life and a lot in college and the pros and he still is worse and outplayed by Lance all training camp outside of a couple practices. HE is the bust.

Darnold can be insurance once Brock and Trey go out w injury then I'm down with him as no other option.

Let's see who is QB2 to start the season - can't imagine it will actually be the 55 start suckage bust w no upside over Trey. Oh wait it's Kyle who actually likes kirk cousins and thought beatthard was gonna be good so nevermind I could see the bust as QB2 over Trey.

The fact that Darnold has 55 starts shows he's already better than Lance. That's of course until Lance proves otherwise.

Sure Darnold was a bust for NYJ, but any QB in his situation 9 times outta 10 would've failed too. There was a lot of pressure on him to be thee guy, just like there's pressure on Lance to be thee guy after what was given up to get him. And after two seasons, Lance could also be called a bust in his own right. But of course you'll disagree because there's no reasoning with you.

But like I said in the Lance thread, everything that Darnold has done in the past is irrelevant. What matters is, the 49ers signed him as a back up who thought he had a shot at being a starter. But in the end he's nothing but a back up a #2. If anything be mad at Trey Lance, he's the one that's getting paid the most and who's about to fall to the #3 position and rightfully so.

You know what they say, Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Just fans. PFF had Darnold as one of the lowest rated players on offense and coaches just give glowing reviews of all QBs now. Does anyone who makes decisions on the team have that opinion? Simply disliking a player shouldn't be enough to let him go or demote him.

Huh? LMFAO. by that rationale, JaMarcus Russell was better than Trey Lance. Come on dude, you're better than that.

What rating are you referring to, or when? Definitely not the last preseason game we just had.

(Not that PFF grades are anything definitive in the first place).

That comment might seem silly to a lot of you but the point is, is that you can't teach experience. You guys said it yourself that all Lance needs is reps well…..

i didn't realize trey has quite a few more snaps than darnold - 14 more plays, if my quick math is right. Hahah I'd be really curious to see the TWP% for the QBs in these two preseason games.

i also don't know how exactly PFF grades, for example: how much does the interception impact the score? Cause darnolds wasn't his fault, was a great throw.

This is last game:
"Below are Pro Football Focus' five highest-graded 49ers players on offense against the Broncos.
  • Deebo Samuel, WR, 85.7, 7 snaps
  • Jauan Jennings, WR, 81.2, 14 snaps
  • Trey Lance, QB, 74.8, 35 snaps
  • Sam Darnold, QB, 73.5, 29 snaps
  • Cameron Latu, TE, 72.2, 34 snaps"

this is the raiders game
"Below are Pro Football Focus' five highest-graded 49ers players on offense against the Raiders.
  • Troy Fumagalli, TE, 90.8, 15 snaps
  • Brandon Allen, QB, 90.2, 14 snaps
  • Ross Dwelley, TE, 86.1, 10 snaps
  • Isaiah Winstead, WR, 73.9, 8 snaps
  • Sam Darnold, QB, 73.7, 19 snaps
trey finished with one of the three worst from the raiders game on offense
Below are the three lowest-graded 49ers players on offense. (Raiders game)
  • Trey Lance, QB, 35.6, 27 snaps
  • Cameron Latu, TE, 48.1, 27 snaps
  • Jordan Mason, RB, 51.3, 12 snaps

Yea. I was wondering what SLC was referring to with his claim, but I think he likely has me blocked, lol.

If I had to guess, he's referring to Sam's PFF score over the course of his career. Which I get, but don't think what he did 3-4 years ago is super relevant. Sam wasn't great last year but a decent player. If you take last year's and then add great coaching, system, and excellent talent - idk why he wouldn't improve.

he's actually surprised me with his play. Only one pick in all of camp (hopefully he isn't being too cautious but he's learning the system) and in the preseason he's made some excellent throw - no bone head plays that I've seen. Seems very accurate.

Does PFF do a career grade in that fashion? I paid for their service for one season about a decade ago. Dropped it quick, lol.

I'm not surprised by his solid showing so far in any case.
