After the mess we had last year @ the QB spot.....I have no idea why there's a contingent amongst that that is praying that we reduce our QB depth for "whatever" in return. Weird stuff.

It's clear as day that the 49ers want 3 legit QB options on this year's team.

Yeah I have no idea why they keep flogging this one. Even to the extent of just picking up a 4th next year! That would be foolishness.

I don't know. I'd prefer we didn't trade Sam Darnold. I want us to make a serious Super Bowl run... and I'd want that to include Trey and Sam.. I would hate for us to be in a situation where it was Trey and Allen or Sam and Allen... with Allen one hit away from having to start.

I think Sam can do well more often than not with our team.. with our weapons and Kyle's ablity to get folks open for him. Would he have that extra it to help us beat tough playoff teams? I'm not sure about that. But I sure as hell don't think Brandon Allen could.

Greg Papa is a big fan of Darnold for whatever reason. Someone in the building told him something I guess just like a fool told Maiocco that Darnold was the best thrower of the football in Niners history.
Honestly in two games, I've seen nothing special. And he's a guy that has been in the NFL since 2018.
I feel like they want to trade Lance because they don't want to develop him. And they wanted a back-up that would not threat Purdy for the starting job.
It's quite funny that some guys like Papa think that Darnold could be the starter. Well whatever, I'm not the coach.

I don't know what people expect to see when they throw the backups like Darnold and Lance in with backups playing against backups. The coaches are so afraid of injuries that they won't let anyone play in games. I've heard several people say that the practices are more of an indicator now than the pre season games. Purdy starte4d the game with the starting lineup minus Williams, CMC and Kittle. Darnold came in and nearly all those starter were out of the game.
Luckily for Sam, for whatever reason, the Sam Stans love him and do not hold him to the same standards as Trey. I can't pinpoint it, but I just don't get why he gets such a pass and people actually seem to enjoy him not being very good. They hate a guy that has played 5 scattered games and is still young but absolutely LOVE and adore a guy who is a proven bust with 50+ games and still leaves plays out there... against 3rd stringers but that's ok as long as it's not Trey to our fans. Sorry about the passive aggressiveness but it's mind boggling the double standards from some of you. Again I don't get it.........

Here is Sam leaving the pocket early for who knows what reason. He was pressured from the outside but he had plenty of pocket to hit someone.

A second later.
Here's his first sack. Pressure early but this should be out. I listened all week how sacks were Treys fault and not the Olines now the same people are blaming the Oline.

Here's his second sack. Once again, pressure early but he has if he doesn't hesitate. I understand it's acceptable for Darnold with 50+ games to miss this but Trey with 5 is a bust for this.

Ohhh and forgot this one. His first 3rd and 5 where he forced it for no reason. He had his mind set on where he was going and didn't even care to look anywhere else. 50+ games...

I thought Denver kept most of their starters in on defense for quite a while? No?

I think this is how it ends up as well.
I don't see anything special with him, and I don't think he makes full field reads. It will depend on Kyle scheming up the first read open in his play. He has the arm talent to make the throws at least

Exactly right
Sammy looked crisp and tight last night, locking up QB2 without doubt.

The Interception: the ball was on target, probably should have been caught, but I'm giving Sammy half the mistake here as he should have taken something off the ball as the receiver was so close, he just unloaded a laser on him at close range.

it boggles my mind too.

So do you think the Raiders game alone was enough to drop him below Darnold? Or that Sam's 2 preseason games were enough to pass Trey? I just don't see that happening, especially since Trey was the starter last season and only lost the job due to injury and Purdy putting on a show literally nobody expected. Trey obviously knows the playbook better, and relegating him to #3 is basically Kyle admitting he made a HUGE mistake drafting Trey.

In your opinion, rather than "without a doubt".
Trey is QB2. "Sammy" is a f**king bust evidenced by 55 games of suckage for a top 5 pick with two teams not wanting his ass.

Just like college ball....5 star recruits.... if you csn get the eyes and brain to work, you have arms and legs that are second to nobody.

Just like saying Hey...Mike Vick can break every NFL qb record in the history of the league during his rookie season. Miles of difference in can and will.

I would bet someone said something about Sam's arm and legs and Papa took that to mean watch out NFL, but as well know it about the eyes and what is between the ears.

49ers are more monolithic then most organizations, but commenting on a new player likely does not meet the requirements of the traditional cone of silence you get from the organization.

Some random staff member could have said we have not had an arm like that since XYZ, or we have not had a pass/run threat like that since Steve Young...and next thing we as fans read....."next Steve Young" on the blogs.
