Love Mason but given what's walked out the door seems hard to spend $5M on a backup RB

49ers tendered RB Jordan Mason with the second-round tender, per source.

that's like $5M or something

Nice. Was hoping they tendered him

Rather not pay him $5M for one yr. This draft class is loaded at RB

They are going to trade him
I'd bet on it.

Wise move.

Doubt it, what would we get for him? 6th round pick?

Maybe. They will trade him. And draft a RB.

yes, I will take a 6th. Better than nothing. And if not traded he's a god player and teammate.

Same here. He's a proven runner, and would be a valuable insurance policy to CMC. But the price tag is steep
Nobody is going to give up a second round for Mason. 5mil is too much for a backup RB. I doubt anyone would have given up a 3rd for him.
Maybe the purge will continue and CMC will be traded
Why do people value/talk about Mason as if he wasn't arguably the best rb through the first six weeks of the season last year? As if he's extremely dispensible.

Mason is homegrown; knows the system; has proven his ability; and he's 25. You don't throw that away when you have a battered, injury prone RB #1.

Guerrendo is promising, but he was a rookie last year and he had durability issues as well.

Mason is a tremendous and essential asset for the 49ers backfield. Love that they put a second-round tender on him. Now they need to stand pat and keep him here. Trading him away would be a fool's errand that will prove costly.

Then again, Shanny has always hated using Mason and only did when forced. So there's that.

They'll draft two and hit on one, usually the one drafted in the later round. This has been the pattern of the past few years.

5 million for a guy who if cmc is healthy is going at most to touch the ball 5-8 times per game is not smart ROI

spending around 27 million per season in your RB position is a luxury when your OL is garbage and you just paid 6 million per season to blocking TE

typical Shannahan, when mahomes and Watson were completely ignored to focus on Kirk Cousins (smh), maybe he is ignoring one of the best RB drafts in last decade smitten by George Mason ! After refusing first 3 years of contract to let him see light of day !!!

They can still trade him for whatever.

If another team gives him an offer sheet, then we can move him for a 2nd.

Because RBs are dispensable, especially ones they offer little in the passing game.

I mean Mason was hurt all the same last yr.

FWIW Mason is a prime example of why you don't need to spend money on RBs (especially when you need help everywhere else). He wasn't even drafted.

also this upcoming draft is probably one of the most loaded RB drafts in a decade.

Enjoy watching Mason, if they can get a pick for him then do it.

It's far more likely Mason comes back and is good than CMC.

The 27 million is all because of CMC not because of Mason or gurrendo.

There is no logical reason to gut your young RB core for an older RB coming off injury. If anybody has to move it will be CMC but I believe his recent raise makes that difficult...

You should move CMC into the slot for his own health sake and give the bulk of carries to Mason and gurrendo to split. Give CMC rb3 outside zone carries. Up the middle has never been CMC game anyway. He's far better to either side.
