Well, if ShanaLynch is going to miss, I'd rather them miss on Offensive Linemen. Good news is that this last draft, they didn't draft a running back. Two years in a row (2022, 2023) prior, they drafted a running back.

For real. To read some zoners you'd think we have zero homegrown talent outside of the 1st round.

Ehhh we don't need to see them churn out more draft picks searching for the next Gore when they can find Mason as an UDFA and Elijah Mitchell at the end of the 6'th.

Kyle's like "maybe I need to use a 1st or 2nd rounder on a RB next time."

The crazy part about this season, is that our roster could have been so much better if we just didn't waste picks like this.

Sometimes you miss, and that's completely understandable, but using multiple high draft picks on RBs that never see the field was insane to me.

Imagine if we used 3 3rd rounders on Defensive ends? One or two would have hit and we would be loaded even more right now.

My only real gripe about Kyle/Lynch is drafting "system guys" rather than focusing on just getting football players and BPA at their slot. They are ELITE at obtaining draft picks and using the rules to stockpile them like nobody's business. Now just get guys in the door who can play ball and contribute.

Exactly.

To be fair though, that's how they've hit on Superstars like Fred Warner, George Kittle, and Huff... but I agree with you sometimes they should try to draft BPA when there's a clear gap between the guy they see as a "fit" and what's on the board.

I think Fred was taken maybe one round ahead of where he was projected, Kittle and Huf similar situation. The difference with those guys is they all played with tremendous effort in college, just not elite physical talents. Davis-Price, Joe Williams, Dante Pettis, etc - all had effort and/or character issues coming out of college. It's that aspect that you can't really measure where it seems Kyle does not have a good feel for the draft. The scouts who do much more "digging" and talking to sources about these players are much better equipped to find those diamonds in the rough.

I remember Jed talking about his input on Trey Lance.

get his ass out of here, lol.
Used a 3rd on this scrub when they could have had Kerby Joseph or Cade Otton.

For real?

We're talking about the higher round draft picks, on positions that we're already very good at developing with less investment (like RB). Overall Kyle/Lynch are doing a good job at drafting (obviously).

Great point, however, *now* that we *got* that franchise QB, the 49ers front office better draft protections for Purdy. One way to protect the QB is to draft offensive linemen instead of running backs, the other way is to have a good running back that Purdy can hand off to, so he can dominate on the pass, and help the offense from being one dimensional and teeing off on Purdy.
Draft the bust #RB in the 3rd round and 4th round of the most time. Better draft the #RB in the 5th round, 6th round and 7th round..
