Who was Arden Key before he got to the 49ers? Charles Omenihu? Ebukam?

No coach hits with every player. The thing that is different with Williams, Collins, and West is that there is a very clear floor with those guys. They all should be functional starters- even if they never become stars.

Lol charles and Sam were the same players they were before they got here. It's just that unless you played in a 32 team dynasty league you like never heard of them. Had they never played for SF you still wouldn't have. Not saying they didn't contribute cause they did. But they were the same players they had been

wrong! The money they got after playing under coach K proves that he made them better.

Omenihu
2019(R) HOU 13 tackles, 3 sacks, 5 QB hits, 2 TFL
2020 HOU 17 tackles, 4 sacks, 16 QB hits, 5 TFL
2022 SF. 20 tackles, 4.5 sacks,16 QB hits, 3 TFL

Ebukam
2019 Rams 48 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 10 QB hits, 5 TFL
2020 Rams 31 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 7 QB hits, 3 TFL
2021 SF 38 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 11 QB hits, 5 TFL
2022 SF 36 tackles, 5 sacks, 13 QB hits, 7 TFL

To me those are very similar numbers to what they were before they got here.
Yup. That's what the number say.

There have been a combined 4 probowler between rounds 2-4 of that draft. Do you think the niners are magically the only team to miss? Every player drafted performed well in college and it's a roll of the dice if they can translate to nfl

Who was the board clamoring for at pick 61? Nicholas Petit Frere?
Why is he still in the Niner thread?

How many high draft picks will this FO blow? Dear Lord it's pathetic.

this is like an end of day 2 pick. come on now

Round 2 waste, how can you defend that. Es[ecially after they drafted Kinlaw too.

bill polian said the draft is a 58% hit rate, and that's if you are drafting well

he's a HOF GM, and a 6 time NFL executive of the year. 40+% of your picks are gonna be busts, even if you are an elite gm.

Yup, so an elite gm may get 4 solid players out of a 7 player draft. Thats a GREAT draft haul. Most teams are lucky to get 1-2 good players that contribute from the draft.

the bizarre part is that most teams, who do well, crush in the first 3-4 rounds and blow on the back half (less blatant talent) but the 49ers are complete
opposite. Hahah

we get crushed in the first 3-4 rounds (usually) and do great on the back half. I'm very optimistic about this draft though. I love the defensive selections.

Even the best GMs have bad drafts in contribution to the team. Medical issues, soft headed guys, guys with no drive, drug issues. All those things are pretty easy to slip through the pre-draft checking process. What I find harder to forgive is when the tape shows a player not being worth the pick they take them at because they love the person from meetings. Tape first, then meetings, then draft. That's really only for the first few rounds ... after that risks are lower so taking shots is more acceptable.

Not with that knee.
Good god every single pick in both the 22 and 23 draft outside of Purdy has been total trash or back ups at best
On this HALLOWED DATE, May 12, 2025: The DRAKE JACKSON entry in 49ers Webzone was officially shifted to NFL TALK. Thus the countdown to total irrelevance begins!

To be fair as many as 7 of those players could start this year (if you consider K as starting position). Heck it wouldn't really stun me to have 2 other names on that list register a start this year. The question is how good they will be after a bunch of time not getting much play.

Purdy
Burford
Winters
Moody
Luter
Brown

Right but at the same time the guys drafted outside of the first 3 rounds are the overwhelming majority are backups who don't even last their rookie contracts.
