Don't they make these types of moves and then after a couple days when they clear waivers they revert back to the team's IR? I might be thinking of other types of transactions or in season transactions.

You are correct if he passes through waivers they can but him on IR.

Yes, and day 2 ends after the 3rd round.

I've been told that Jake Moody was not a 3rd round pick. He was pick #99. It's hard for some lol
Wow. Waived already. As others said yes this front office misses on too many high picks. Also trades away high picks. I thought last years class was pretty good. This years class is too early but looks really good at some spots to me. I just hate that they always ignore the offensive line. But otherwise I have high hopes for this years class and last years class. Previous to that we had some absolute bust drafts.

Never a real fan of the pick. We need pass rushers that have violent hands with power at the POA. You watch his tape at USC, you might as well tie his hands behind his back lol. Getting around OTs with speed in college might work for you at that level…whole different thing in the pros.

Well said. Anyone that's ever played football knew it was a massive red flag when this dude came back fat after his "weight gain" and said he hit 3 plates on the bench for the first time ever(high school football kids do this).

I think Drake should either go to a 5-man front(aka "3-4") or consider switching positions to a stack LB. He's got athleticism and max effort to hang his hat on, and he's flashed when he's chasing the ball. Maybe he has a Zach Baun type ascension as a stack LB.

Not sure about Max effort, or being a Zach Baun. The sacks he's gotten with us were gift sacks where the QBs slid at his feet running from Bosa.

No more drafting DEs from USC for us. Dude was the second coming of Ifaeyani.
Man, I really liked Jackson coming out of USC. One of my bigger draft crushes in recent memory; was supppperrrr stoked when we actually got him. His skill set would have really helped. Unfortunately, he needed a lot of development, and he got the worst injury possible.

He was raw and athletic coming out of college. That injury he suffered didn't allow him to learn the finer points of edge rushing. Maybe he'll never become a decent edge rusher. I hope he doesn't end up with the Rams or Seahawks and come back to haunt us.

I got the impression he wasn't exactly the most dedicated student either.

once he started chirping in may after doing nothing all season i knew it was over for him.

I was wondering about that as well. We don't hear from this dude all off-season and he suddenly posts something on X. My suspicion is that Shana-Lynch probably informed him of the release a few days ago. That resulted in his sudden X post. A day or two later, the news becomes official.

He failed a physical. Which isn't good after missing all of last season. The NFL is a tough business. One injury can cost a career.

Bill Walsh whiffed on a few first round picks as well. However, with others like Ronnie Lott and Jerry Rice, he hit absolute gold. So, Walsh isn't remembered for the first round draft busts that include James Owens (actually the first pick in the 2nd Round of 1979), Ken MacAfee and Earl Cooper (to a degree).

But I do agree, Shanahan has been horrible with his picks in the first round. The absolute worst decision of all time was trading up for Trey Lance.

Yeah that one is terrible. Of course every regime misses on some picks. Including Walsh, Belichick, Johnson. But this regime has been horrible high up. 1st and 2nd rounders you can't point to very many who have been good. 9 years in they have more busts, misses, traded away picks there than anything else. You can point to Bosa but that was really high up and he was a known quantity. Deebo now gone. Aiyuk who is badly injured and we don't know if he will be the same. But the busts and misses list is much longer than that if you look it up.

You can't evauate the the last 2 years yet. Let's look at all his drafts.

No question he whiffed in his first one in 2017. Chalk that up to inexperience for him and Lynch. Thomas and Foster taken in the first round. Neither ended up being any good.

In 2018 he took McGlinchey in the first who was a pretty good RT. Very goood run blocker. Average pass blocker. In the 3rd round he got Warner. All Pro.

In 2019 he took Bosa. Easy pick but at least he didn't pass him up for someone else. He took Deebo in round 2 and Greenlaw in round 5. Bothe wewre instrumental parts of the teams success.

In 2020 he had 2 picks. Kinlaw was a reach but they knew he was a project with some injury history. They felt he was worth the risk. Aiyuk wastaken at the end of the first round and has been their best WR until the injury.

Then they had 3 straight bad years because of the Lance deal. Obviously he didn't pan out and it ended up costing them their first round pick in the next 2 seasons.

So out of 5 seasons ( not counting tthis year and 2024) that they had a first round pick they hit on 3 of the 6 guys. Three starters and one who has been a Pro Bowler. He also doid well getting Deebo in the 2nd, Warner in the 3rd and Greenlaw in the 5th.

Overall his drafting has been about the league average. Some teams have been lucky and done better and others have been unlucky and done worse. The one really big mistake was trading up for Lance. They needed a QB and it was just unfortunate that it was a terrible year for QBs. In hindsight they could have stayed at #11 and probably could have gotten Mac Jones. The result would have been about the same but they would have kept those 2 number one picks in 2022 and 2023.

We'll let it camp here for a bit. With his injury he isn't going to be poached by another team right now. It seems the main reason they released him was to make room for an offensive lineman they needed now. If Jackson is ever able to pass a physical, he can rejoin the team.
