At least it wasn't an ankle that turned into a Achilles.

Yeah, I don't know what's up with our stable of RBs all getting injured. Just bad luck I suppose or maybe it says something about our medical staff. But, you can't blame them if there just getting injured during games.

Like we learned about kittle earlier in the season. They said he has a sore calf and it turns out we learn it was a tweaked Achilles. Like which is it? Someone is sharing false info

At least around 15 carries each for two running backs. Having Mitchell do back to back games running 30 times or more weighs on him. His rookie year he's now had a concussion, busted knees, finger like damn dude. Idk why they're running him into the ground. There needs to be a balance.

This has been a SF thing since the dawn of time. Massive underrated issue.
I agree

Their entire medical staff / conditioning teams stinks. No way it's just bad luck or sheer coincidence that we end up in the top half of injury laden teams year and year out. Our staff does a piss poor job of having our guys fit during the off-season, and do an even worse job during the season. And then when they DO get injured, our medical staff does a piss poor job of identifying the severity of injury.

How does a rookie in his early 20s get injured so often and in so many different places ? I'm sure there are other RBs in the league that carry a heavier workload than him. Not all teams have the luxury of having a 1-2 punch at that position. How does your premier RB come in to start the season and have a season ending injury after ONE PLAY ?!

Bad luck ? Coincidence ? Or do we have internal flaws with the conditioning / medical crew ? I believe in the latter…

We don't have injury-prone RB's. We have RB's that fit the Shanahan offense. They are small and cat quick. The plus side is they are so fast that they are 4-5 yards downfield before they suffer the first hit. The down side is they are not big enough to handle a full season of NFL pounding. This has always been the case with RB's under the Shanahan system.

Love watching Elijah run. I hope Wilson's knee holds up. But a fresh Elijah for the playoffs is huge, provided the 49ers make it that far.

Agree, the medical crew probably has something to do with the injury situation.

I also happen to think ShanaLynch's draft and player acquisition approach is also partly to blame. Example: Sherman - achilles, Verett - ACL, Kentavius Street - ACL etc... they try to get players who are talented, but got injured and their draft capital dropped.

The only think I can think of is just throw more bodies at the situation. For example at the RB corps, just have more bodies there. I like how they approached it this year. Despite having Mostert, Hasty, and Jeff, they also drafted Sermon and Mitchell. I thought they overdrafted the position at first, but once the injuries started to happen I'm sure glad they loaded up on RB's this offseason.
Hope Mitchell can get healthy for the last 2 weeks & playoffs. Doubt he is ready for Thursday's game, so would rather get him rested & completely healthy for stretch run

With respect to injuries, I think the way the use Deebo is a possible answer. Again, from an injury perspective, if you have a Deebo 2.0 (maybe not as quick, fast, or strong as Deebo 1.0) but is adequate at being a WR *and* an RB, he can add depth to both positions. Another example would be if Elijah Mitchell or Trey Sermon develop their pass catching skills such that they can be employed as a WR or as a Offensive Weapon (in Sermon's case) that can add depth at both the WR and offensive weapon positions. I'm just racking my brains out trying to think of ways to deal with this injury issue, it's not going away. I don't think it will ever go away.

Thank god we have a bit of depth at the RB position to rest up the players that are injured. Elijah has been a big part of the offense this year - if he can stay healthy, relatively speaking, he has the talent to get to his second contract with ShanaLynch.
Now that Jeff Wilson has gotten hot Mitchell may not get that 1000 yard season.
